She said they hadn't routed the emails we sent to her office, but that it didn't matter anyway. They are committed to releasing the soundtrack. I asked her again if there is anything fans can do to help expedite the release, and she said no.

This was vastly different from the first time I talked to her, when she encouraged me to tell fans to send emails and that they would definitely count. So I am confused. I have no idea why she would change her tune that way.

Sorry that I don't have any more news than this.

A bump of sorts here: anyone hear anything new about a soundtrack cd? Maybe someone somewhere can see if maybe a _double_ cd with the film and the series music could be released when the time comes?

Greetings:

Sent my request in and perhaps everyone here can do something that'll spark alittle heat. NPR usually runs a local request day. If everyone started hitting the NPR stations over a month's time, it might generate more interest in a soundtrack release. When organizations ask about a project, a studio usually perks up it's ears.
Didn't think to ask for a 'double' CD set...sigh. But did suggest that they do like Paramount has done and add some extra features like a VCD section.
The music can stand on it's own and would play on anything from classical to country (Ballard of Serenity) to perhaps top 40. Know that it would work on satelite radio. Counting down the days till the release.
If Scifi releases BSG, wouldn't Fox want something to compete, especially since they know they have a loyal fan base???

I just submitted a news thing here. But to add to your comment, we should go to the Fox Music (foxmusic.com) downloads store--Navio storefront:

There you can click on the banner in the middle to "Sign Up for Future Releases." It lists "Firefly" in the banner ad. No CD, but it's much better than nothing.

The navio store only has Microsoft WMA files. No good for iPods! Better email Fox and ask them to sell it through iTunes as well. Should be no problem, the movie trailer is on iTunes.

Can't you use some program that converts files ?

Well, you can convert between all these formats. Even if it's DRM-protected you just burn a CD and then there's no DRM. Re-import however you want. But if those WMA files to have Microsoft's DRM, you can't use them on Mac. Whereas iTunes is universal for Mac and PC alike.

Also, with a conversion you either get a bigger file or slightly lower quality. (Depends on your settings.) That's OK, but for the same money it's nice not to have to compromise.

If I gave you money or some other sort of compensation like homemade cookies, would you burn me a copy of your CD? Pretty pretty please with whipped cream and a cherry on top?

I sent an email about the cd to FOX. Hope it helps.

Done. I've been listening to "Nickel Creek" and pretending they did some of the music for the movie... *sigh*

Of all the soundtracks in the 'verse, I've been looking forward to this one the most. Breaks the heart to think they wouldn't put it out as a CD. Not everybody is getting their music from the Internet, after all. There are still us old-fangled types who like to have the acutal item in our hot little hands, along with the unique graphics and not so overly published images.

I don't think they quite get what an experience a soundtrack can be.

Thank you for your kindness. And as I found very quickly, it wasn't a trudge at all.. it was more like a very exciting adventure. Firefly has become my favorite television series of all time, and I just love the soundtrack.

I really, REALLY hope they release it on CD, or at least release the Serenity soundtrack on CD.

OK, sent my request in to Fox for the Firefly soundtrack. Told them all I really buy is soundtracks (which is true, actually. My last cd purchases were the Star Wars ep3 and HBO's "Carnivale" soundtracks). Now all that's left to do is cross my fingers and try to get everyone else out there to send a quick email to the link above asking for one also! So hop to it!

I guess this topic has come and gone... but if you haven't emailed Fox before, do so today! Like I did!

Please consider releasing the Firefly Soundtrack as an actual CD. Trust me, it will do just as well as the DVD sales have, particularly as the movie Serenity gets closer to release date. You know how well the DVD sales did, and are as a matter of fact still doing. Now is the time to cash in on all the Firefly fans who are just beside themselves waiting for this new movie, with no Firefly merchandise except the DVDs currently on the market. The music in the Firefly series was a HUGE, integral part of what made the series so special. This is not a product that only those who listen to movie soundtracks are going to buy. This is a product that all Firefly fans are going to want, particularly if you take the time just to add a couple of small extras, such as a comment from Joss and composer Greg Edmonson in the liner booklet.

Sincerely,

Brandon Klassen.

This is wordier than I would have put it, but not bad. Mostly I think the producers are more about numbers than reasons why, but this is very well written.

Me, I'm planning to write again because I'm still listening to "Nickel Creek" and pretending they had some hand in the soundtrack. Their blue-grass sound isn't exactly Firefly, per-se, but similar enough to put it firmly in my mind when I hear it. I love these kids, but it's not the same as having the music that coincides with Serenity's first appearance in the film.

And if that counts as a spoiler SO BE IT!

Off to submit my plea one more time.
