GUERILLATHEATRE

Please, allow me to preface this post with the fact that I am not a Science Fiction fan. I don't watch Battlestar Gallactica, Andromeda and I loath all things Star Trek. However...

A friend of mine kept after me to watch Firefly. He even went so far as to bring the DVDs to my house and leave them sitting on my television. I left them there for about two months, without picking them up.

Then, while suffering from a summer cold that kept me in bed or ont he couch for a couple of days, I said "What the heck." and popped in Serenity...then I watched the Train Job...then I watched Bushwacked...Then I watched Shindig...and well, I'm sure you get the picutre... in one day I'd gone thru the first two discs. I've now finished Out of Gas and quite frankly, this is the best episode of any television series I've seen in quite awhile.

I'm now almost finished with the series and I am so very sad that there will be no more to come. I honestly cannot fathom how Fox could cancel this show. It is so well done. The acting, the cinematography, the writing are each among the best on television. Flipping the channels to see junk like The Simple Life on Fox instead of Firefly truly baffles me.

Anyway, I bought the DVDs myself and plan on sharing them with other friends that I hope will have my similar experience.

CALLMESERENITY

I echo the welcomes!

There's so much out there for those of us who've been anxiously awaiting the movie, so there's plenty to keep you busy for the next six weeks.
When you've finished the DVDs, I highly recommend you listen to the commentaries. Some are quite funny, a few are insightful, and one is a bunch of girls talking about clothes. But all worth listening to.

Meanwhile, I hope you like it here!

Thanks for the welcome!

He did tell me about the movie and I'm very excited about it. I'll be in the theatre September 30th.

What's up with rumors about the show coming back to television? And why was it cancelled in the first place?

Dibs! They are just rumors - rumors caused by no-more-ep-itis. Symptoms range from re-re-re-watching Firefly DVDs, to wearing cunning orange hats IN PUBLIC, to sudden bursts of, "no, no, F*X You!" to gathering with others to commiserate... and have a shindigerific time. In other words - just rumors.
Why was it cancelled? Pass! I'll let someone else take that one.
Here's a welcome goodie for you to read after you see all the eps - an unfilmed script called Dead or Alive.

Enjoy!

You lucky dog, you! I'm so jealous! You still have new Firefly episodes in front of you, and you only have to wait a couple months for the BIG DAMN MOVIE! :p

Be sure to be even more determined than your friend in recruiting more fans from your co-workers/friends/family/total strangers and if we can make the movie a hit, there *WILL* be sequels! :)

Jayne, your mouth is talkin. Might want to look into that.

Yee-haw! My brown coat's still all shiny and new and un-dustified, too. I just saw the last episode a couple of days ago and am now going back through the commentaries. Wonderful stuff!

From one newb (who also doesn't watch BSG or any of those other sci-fi shows, and who's never liked Buffy) to another: WELCOME!

Welcome!

We waited for you. And we wondered how long those DVDs were gonna sit on top of your tv.

When you run out of episodes, don't forget the commentary. Also, there's commentary on some episodes, accessible through the language menu, and there's an Easter Egg.

WHIMSICALBRAINPAN

You're not alone, though my sin is perhaps more grave than being merely unaware of Firefly's sublimity: I'd forgotten how good it was.

And then a couple of weeks ago I was flipping and landed on something familiar looking on SciFi...I said, hey, that looks like Firefly. Then it became apparent to me that they were not showing a clip from an episode, not a made-for-SciFi TV movie, but indeed a trailer for a soon-to-be released Firefly major motion picture.

Let me tell you, it was like someone hit me in the back of the head with a sledgehammer. Only it was an angel-wielded silken sledgehammer of Recollection, Insight, and Joy. In short, I very nearly exploded in my pants.

The joy was only briefly interrupted when, upon arriving at the big-name video store some hours later, I found that yes, they carried the DVD set, but it was sold out. Sold Out. A boxed set almost two years from initial release, swept from the shelves. Someone out there must sold their soul to the devil, taken one for the team, because this is all just too good to be true. Especially the part about how the movie looks, well, just so good. Whichever one of you made the sale, let me know so I can send you a "sympathy and thanks" card.

Back in the early days, I got an email from a friend that contained a PS along the lines of "BTW, I hear this Firefly show is supposed to be terrific. Have you seen it?" I replied, without hesitation, "oh yeah" in the same (digitally) breathless tone as John Kinsella in "Field of Dreams."

So my apologies for, if not losing the faith, then forgetting it. But I'm making up for lost time: my "Fighting Elves" shirt will be here in time for the premiere.

Howdy, I’m new too. Feels very comfy here.

Have come to the conclusion that f*x’s motto is not “Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater” but “Hell with the baby, just keep the stinken bathwater”.

Though I’m a fan of (good) sci-fi and stumbled into the frigintastic world of Firefly thru that door, the really amazing thing to me is how the qualities that make Firefly the special creature it is cross so many boundaries and borders of taste. This is the only show I’ve ever seen that I truly can’t conceive how anyone who saw it would not love it, or at least have to admit they liked it.

Like you, I was (still am) just totaled upon discovering after the first entrees that there was only a partial serving cooked. There is of course, Serenity nearing sunrise, and then the sequals, but still…

Surely there is unanimous opinion here that it would be a Grand thing for the show to be picked back up (even if by f*x) and though the naysayers may be correct, perhaps if the groundswell becomes the tidalwave it appears to becoming…

Hope springs eternal.
