Oh Matt, what great pictures!

Adam and Nathan look so tired. And I love that Adam's wearing a Serenity shirt. The women all look gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous! And you don't look so bad yourself!

That might have been better as a seperate thread Flight, we like to keep more to the randomness than the serious on this one.
Maybe he was just tired, ya know, they have tough schedules at the moment, and sometimes people do embaressing things they don't want to be reminded of...

Hey Flightrisker - welcome.

Just to say, you're absolutely right not to go into details about the film in this thread - I know it seems like everyone posting here has seen it but this is our little crazy thread about allsorts and so new people pop in all the time.

Sorry you didn't enjoy your experience with the cast - have read somewhere else about Nathan objecting to a certain photo on the net, don't know whether it's the one you had trouble with though.

Hey matt

I remember seeing u at the signing! The minute u went behind the tables all the security guards near me started freaking out. Looks like you got them before the apathy set in. Adam was the only one up for a chat. My mate said to him "love you in independance day" whioch he seemed to enjoy.

I'm still so confused about why Nathan hates me:(

Flightrisker, hey.

Well, I have to agree...for some reason, Adam and Nathan did seem very off yesterday at hmv. Don't know what it was down to...I'd met them both before, and can vuch that there both absolutely lovely guys, they really are, but yeah...yesterday I didn't see the two lovely humorous folks I was expecting to see.

I don't know what it was really. I wouldn't dwell on it too much.

And Joss seemed just totally confused...the whole thing did feel rather chaotic, it must have been stressing them.

But I found the girls to all be charming and lovely!

Yeah Flightrisker, I wouldn't take it too personally. I'm sorry you had a bad experience with the BDHs, though, because most stories I've heard have been that they're all so nice. *hug*

Yeah, it's the 'mark of approval' effect. If it's not bought merchandise (like the DVD cover) or an official photo with the Firefly or Serenity logo on it, they are not really obliged to sign it, and don't like to do so.

Ack! Craziness, thread... moving... at... break-...neck... speed.
So very quickly.

Matt: You lucky jammy git of a space monkey! Grrrr. Fab pics!
Everyone else from UK screenings: I'm sure you're all still on highs. so... *puts on phoney Jamaican accent* Simmer down now, simmer down now.

As regarding flights post, all I can do is agree with what's been said. The cast must have been absolutely knackered. As the head honcho, Joss probably tried to keep on rolling, but the BDHs certainly look like they are in a comatose state.

That's probably exactly why Nathan was so snappy to start off with. His comment about 'not appreciating' seems to go a bit past your usual tired snappiness though, but as it's already been mentioned... there is a point to which you want your goofiness public, especially as a celebrity. No matter HOW funny we seem to think it is (considering how goofy he usually is), and how little 'harm' we assume it would do him. How would you feel if hundreds of people printed off some photo of you (on say a drunken night-out) that you really didn't think was flattering in hindsight, but everyone else found hi-larious... and proceeded to bug you for signed copies of it.

'Tis a pity it had to happen to you, but we should respect the Fillion for now.

Wow, CMS, you really have gone transatlantic!

Very quick question:

Now you have all seen the film (with notable exceptions!) would anyone consider seeing the series as a marathon at a cinema?

To my eternal lack of sleep, I saw all seven star trek films in one sitting when Generations came out and thought that it would be an exceptional way of marketing the BDF perhaps a week before the UK release.

Any thoughts?

Hmmmm.... i wonder what the legal side of viewings like that would be; in terms of the copyright warnings that no-one ever reads through. Prisons and oil rigs, that's all I can remember from those scrolling bits of text...

I'm guessing they would probably have to be free screenings, right? So not many theatres might jump to the occasion. My local up in St Andrews is fortunately independent and the only cinema in town. And I know the guys who run it, and have organised several events there (we had a student short-film night in May).
I'll definitely suggest it as an idea, as it's completely in their interest to sell out as many showings as possible. Plus they never usually make any money on ticket sales (as such a huge percent goes to the distributor), not that they would probably be able to charge for DVD screenings. But the *real cash* comes from the snack bar. So as long as it's open for a few-hour-long marathon...

Just to claify i've no hard feelings. I presumed the guy did have his reasons and you've pointed out several, i was just wondering if there was some bigger story behind the picture that i was unaware of. I'll text him later and make up ;)

I was thinking something along the lines of it being like a paid for shindig and being similar to the Rocky Horror (idea was inspired by the end of the Signal podcasts with everyone singing the theme tune at the last Starfury con) with Fox paid their pound of flesh and Universal able to sell merchandise in the lobby.

Bear in mind that this is all hypothetical as I have no idea if they are planning this or whether it is at all possible for the legal and political reasons mentioned.

If (for example) The Curzon on Shaftesbury Avenue charges £250 per hour for their smaller screen and Fox need £1000 for the licensing, then for a 16 hour marathon (which is the minimum needed to include caffeine and toilet breaks, not to mention meals), then we are looking at something in the region of £45-£50 per head.

If, however, Universal were to consider the idea as a meaningful way of promoting the film, then they would probably be happy to pay for it. After all, what it would cost them is an infinitesimal amount compared to their actual marketing budget for the majority of films!

Would we all want to go?

SIMONWHO

Flightrisker, as to why Nathan (and other stars) reacted strongly, it's really simple: they've got to draw the line somewhere. I know it'd be great if we could pose for pictures with them, get them to comment on the fan art we drew and sign pictures of things they'd rather not be reminded about. But frankly that would a) mean that they'd have to spend 6 hours on that same group of people, b) they'd have affixed their name to some really crappy pieces of work and c) they feel like the fan's personal tools of amusement rather than appreciated for their talents.

I'm sure if we throw a dead monkey in here, you'll hit at least five people who could tell you a story about how Nathan did something above and beyond what a normal star would do. But that doesn't mean he always has to be acting above and beyond. He also is in trouble because he now has a reputation for joking around in a deadpan manner. When he refused to sign it, you may well have thought he was just joking which just makes things more awkward.

So does that mean you're the bad guy for printing out a wacky picture and asking him to sign it? Of course not. The real trouble is that HMV didn't set things up very well (qv a lot of other people's blogs) and if they'd come out with a nice, clear "Official Merchandise Only" policy, this would have been avoided. They even had a stack of the UK One Shots that would have helped with this.

The only rules they provided were one signature from each guest and if you want to take photos, please stand to the side and take them (that meant you would not be in said photo). You seem to have gotten several photos with you in them and two signatures from Joss and Adam. Now, whether Nathan saw this and thought you were taking liberties or whether this was just a coincidence, I can't say.

We can't expect our favourite actors to be robots (other than Alan, obviously) and we can't expect us fans to know exactly what times we can push things a little and what times we can't. The best bet is to see if this is their standard behaviour or whether it is out of character. As you can probably tell by the responses already, most of us are very surprised by Nathan's reaction. I think he's a genuinely good guy and a great ambassador for Firefly in general. However I understand from your personal experience if you don't see it like that.
