Hey Safe-didn't you have a softball tournament around this time? How'd it go?

Gorram it! I just remembered that I haven't written my stupid essay yet. I really don't want to do it, which I guess is one of the reasons I keep forgetting. *sigh* Guess what I'm doing tonight?

Sorry, Amy, I was going to work on your hat, but I have to write a ruttin' essay. grumble grumble.

Grumble....we didn't have enough guys and had to back out of the tournament....then I worked late so I still couldn't go see Adam....grumble..

I submitted my essay AND 2 pieces of art and still no points...oh well, 84 1/2 days and counting...

*Robotic Jack looks inside the gutted head of Bubbles:* Looks like they took her AI chip.

*Jayne shakes his head:* Ain't no telling what they're doin' to 'er. I still got me the need to dust and Pledge.

*Robotic Jack:* You got another gun?

Umm... Yeah. You got another gun?

*Jayne hands over a handgun to robotic Jack, but gives real Jack a look that gives him the shivers:* Sorry, meatbag. All out.

Umm... Can we talk about this?, *Jack slowly backs away...*

*Robotic Jayne to Robotic Jack,* He ain't much use now, is he?

*Robotic Jack notices that main power goes out. The emergency power lights come on. Destiny stops moving.*

*A few minutes later, Jayne comes down the hallway holding some components in his hand.*

Did you get it?

*Jayne holds up a component,* Yep. One Firefly operations chip.

That should do. All I've got to do is hook it up...

*Robotic Jack rewires Bubbles for a minute,* That should do it.

Bubbles eyelids roll up and her eyes focus. The intercom sounds: RESEQUENCING. REROUTING CONTROLS. THE PENANCE OF MANY SOUGHT. VENGEANCE.

*Robotic Jack looks over to Jayne,* Sounds like she's on the right track.

*Jayne points to the blood puddle on the floor,* Where's our Funny Man?

Off dying somewhere, I'm sure. Maybe he'll get to warn someone. But thanks to our little sister here, I'm sure that the crew might figure that somethings amok.

Serenity can barely hear anything over the panicking crew. She looks down the hall and recognizes a stumbling form.

"Serenity..."

"Jack!?!"

Serenity goes to him, covering herself in blood as she catches him, "Oh my God, Jack? Jack? What happened?"

"The robots..." Jack sputters, "They're... They're..."

Serenity bends in closer, "What about them? TRM, get over here!"

Jack suddenly smiles, "Smear a little blood, act a little dead, "Removes Serenity's mule leg once again, "Get the girl..."

Robotic Jack stands up with the gun pointed straight up into Serenity's throat...

Scottish Jayne approaches Flechette in the crew's mess, "Darling, you're going to hear alot of things pretty soon..."

Flechette finishes up chopping some carrots, "Honey, could you hand me the knife out of the butcher block?" The light flickers, "Damn it Safe, stop toying around with the ship's power and intercom. Sounds like Jack's playing around again," Flechette looks up, "That's the shirt I got you. Does it fit good?"

"Yeah," Jayne hands her the knife, "It does. Muffin, we gotta talk..."

More ominous declarations over the intercom.

Flechette ignores it and starts chopping onions, "We're talking, dear. It's not more of that 'I'm a robot and you're not' sort of talk is it? 'Cause we're going to make this work..."

"Honey, we're trying to take over the ship."

Flechette stops chopping, "Oh."

"Are you mad?" Jayne asks sheepishly.

"So you're leaving?"

"Looks like."

"How much time do you have?"

Jayne checks his watch, "A few minutes."

Flechette washes her hands and gets rid of her apron. She comes around and wraps her arms around Jayne, "We're just gonna have to make the best of them aren't we?"

I have to edit just a few things Jack ---

Flechette doesn't stop chopping, "Oh darn."

"Are you mad?" Jayne asks sheepishly.

"depends - anyone hurt?"

"nothing they can't live thru"

"So you're leaving?"

"Looks like."

"How much time do you have?"

The real Jack staggers on the bridge, "Let her go."

Robotic Jack turns around with Serenity snug in his grasp and lifts an eyebrow, "You know you've really let your own self go, bleeding all over the deck like that..."

"What's wrong with you? Why are you evil all of the sudden? That was extra..." Jack trembles, "That was supposed to be extra..."

TRM looks between the bloody Jacks, "Did I miss something? Why are there two of you?"

"You know, I'm just going to stand here and watch you die. And then after that, I'm going to take this pretty first officer of yours and..."

The Real Jack produces a modest handgun, "I think that you're going to let her go. And you're going to do it now."

"Am I?"

BLAM

The Robotic Jack's head explodes as TRM... blows up his head somehow... without a gun...

"Holy shit," Jack says as the robotic Jack falls to the deck, headless, "How'd you do that?"

"Eastern Philosophy of Destroying an Evil Double."

Serenity recovers her gun, "TRM, Jack IS bleeding to death."

"Right on," TRM produces a first aid kit, "I get to try out my new stitchery set!"

Oooo the story has taken a dark turn....I like it!

*In the surface of his toolbox Safe catches the reflection of movement behind him. He pretends not to hear the electric screwdriver, gauging distances he take a step forward, spins and watches the electric screwdriver rocket towards him...it stops inches from his eye at the end of its cord. Safe nonchalantly reaches up, grabs the cord and un-plugs it.*

*Safe turns and opens his toolbox, and lifts out a hidden panel. There lie two black Colt .45 Peacemakers and 2 Colt .44 Magnums.*

Ok you walking toasters....PARTY-TIME!!

*Safe heads off a at dead run*

Gotta find the others...not that they need savin' mind you they're a hardy bunch, just to lend a hand. After all that's what Handymen do best! Woo hoo hoo hoo...

The moment that Robotic Jack's attention is on the real Jack, TheRealMe produces from his hand a black disk ringed with fire, perhaps a foot across. A twin of that disk appears a short distance away, floating above Robotic Jack's head.

With a quick downward motion of his hand, TRM lowers both disks, dropping the one over Robotic Jack's head. As the plane of that disk passes downward, the top half of Robotic Jack's head disappears, to emerge, with a confused expression, from the disk in TheRealMe's hand.

TheRealMe claps his hands together, and both disks snap shut, slicing Robotic Jack's head in half.

BLAM!

Both halves explode, knocking TheRealMe back to the bulkhead. TheRealMe dusts himself off.

CASTIRONJACK

The crew bursts into the Mess Hall. Safe and TRM are holding Jack between them, surprisingly patched and sewn up pretty well.

Serenity sweeps the room with her gun, "Well?"

Jack shrugs, "I don't know where he could be," he looks around, "Funny, that looks like his shirt," he points at a Blue Sun t-shirt.

There's a jostling behind the kitchen counter. Serenity silently makes her way forward...

"And that looks like his pants, too," Jack says, "And his boots..."

TRM points out another shirt, "Hey. Isn't that Flechette's?"

At that moment, Flechette's head pops over the counter, "Hey guys, do you mind?"

Serenity flushes as she gets a little more than everyone else, "Sorry, Flechette. Didn't know you had the situation... Under control..."

"Not yet, but I'm working on it..." Flechette's head disappears beneath the counter once again. There's some groaning behind the counter.

Safe turns on Jack, "Hey. How is this fair? Mine only tried to kill us all twice and yours shot you."

"It hurts to shrug, Safe. I dunno. Maybe that's why they were free."

"Would both of you shut up?" Serenity exclaims, "We've got to fix the ship before the captain wakes up."

TRM straightens and salutes, "Don't you worry about a thing Serenity. Patching up Jack was easy. Destiny should be a cakewalk!"

"I think you guys should start in the computer room," An unseen Flechette replies, "Or the engine room..."

Serenity pinches the bridge of her nose, "Got it Flechette. We're leaving..." she says, "Keep up the... Good work."

THEREALME

Right! It so happens that I'm an expert in engineering, computers, and robotics. Why, I invented my own robot, Sparky, in the Sereni-Tree some 27 threads ago!

Though I admit that Sparky was not nearly so... advanced... as these models.

The solution to our problem is that we need to program the Three Laws of Robotics into our new friend's main processor.
