THEWANDERINGBARD

I was looking around at www.ign.com today and found this fun little contest.
http://comics.ign.com/articles/646/646667p1.html
Pretty much standard 64 man bracket for who the Best Comic Book Writer, and lo and behold Joss is in it. He is in the Word Smith's Bracket and doing well, but as the contest caries on he will need some Browncoat action. Figure we could get some free viral marketing off this one. Here's a schedule of when the rounds start.

First Round - Friday, 9/2
Second Round - Friday, 9/9
Swank Sixteen - Friday, 9/16
Excelsior Eight - Friday, 9/23
Phenom Four - Monday, 9/26
Championship - Friday, 9/30
Champion Revealed - Monday, 10/3

Keep them votes pouring in.

KAYLEE: So how come you don't care where you're going?
BOOK: 'Cause how you get there is the worthier part.

Hold on...You're telling me that eventually, Joss is going up against Alan Moore? Ummm...Good luck to him, is all I have to say...I'll vote Whedon, because I find his stuff more entertaining than Moore's, but Moore is a powerhouse that commands respect in the comic field that I fear the Joss just doesn't have...

Still votin' for Joss though...The Danger storyline in Astonishing is...well...Astonishing!

Great! I cast my vote and currently Joss is in the lead with more than 80 percent (I would say 88 but I'm not too sure now)

In other rounds I also voted for Mark Millar of The Ultimates, one of my favourite comics at the minute; J Michael Straczinski (sp?) again Spiderman being one of my faves (plus I'm really liking his F4 run); and Brian Michael Bendis who seems to be running every other Marvel comic at the minute

thank you I, uh, picked them myself

I wanst actually much of a comic reader until Joss started writing X Men - since then I've been picking comics up all the while. The only time I really read them were the occasional Buffy and X Files ones, but only because they were part of the magazines at one point. I used to read Spiderman and XMen when I was younger but it's only this year that I've read them religiously

Ok I voted.

Edit: I just thought I'd add that Joss is currently winning with 87% of the votes. So that's shiny...even if it is the first round.

I voted for Joss this round, but it's going to be hard to do so up against Alan Moore. With Watchmen and V for Vendetta on the drama side and Top 10 on the comic side, Moore is an amazing writer.

Whedon's solid, but I think he's outclassed as a comic writer when it pits him up against the likes of Brian K. Vaughn, Warren Ellis...

STANDING8

Battles like these always end up with the same three writers in the end: Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman and Frank Miller.(And rightfully so)

Bendis will be the fourth and in the semi finals he will lose to Miller while Moore and Gaiman will battle it out in the other bracket. In the end it will be Moore vs Miller with Miller probably winning out this time.

I feel Gaiman should win everytime though cause I think hes one of if not the greatest writer in comics ever. He gets snubbed cause he doesnt write superhero comics and hasnt made a big a impact as moore or miller but as a writer, i dont think anyone comes close.

whedons good but NO WHERE near the level on those three.

I think topm 8 is good enough. Specially for him not writing as many comics as most of these others.

now if it wass tv writer . i'd fight till the end. I voted for him but hes done this round but still. Good for him making top 8 with these legendaries.

Shameless bump because, whether or not his comics are the best thing since sliced bread... any publicity is good publicity for our BDM.
