The New England Browncoats have just created a charity donation site for those in need after the effects of Hurricane Katrina.

All money will go directly to the American Red Cross National Disaster Relief Fund. The website JustGiving.com funnels all money to the charity with no middleman.

We have set up a goal of $500.00. If you want to make a donation, you can visit the donation site at http://www.justgiving.com/pfp/NEBHurricaneRelief

Be sure to tell your friends and family about this site.

If anyone wants to make an offline donation I will handle them. Just send a check payable to the American Red Cross to:

The Hurricane Katrina Displaced Residents Fund, which will help residents and The Hurricane Katrina New Orleans Recovery Fund, which will focus on rebuilding infrastructure. Since Adam posted that message, he has collected $11,714.00., At Dragon*Con, not counting anything from Sunday.

Its a tough time for all concerned. Please, if you are able then give. what ever you can. Even the smallest of donations will help.

SLOWHAND

That's so great! I was one of the lucky ones. I live in Jackson, Mississippi. It got really bad here, and is still really bad. But, I see the light at the end of the tunnel. New Orleans...I just don't know. I love New Orleans. I love going there with friends. This is just heartbreaking to see.

Right now, I have several people that were less fortunate staying with me. We have no gasoline, so we can't go anywhere. We've just been sitting around watching movies. One good thing that came of it, I showed my Firefly DVD's to them and they all loved it! They can't wait for the movie! It's great to see that even in the face of this terrible disaster, Firefly still brought smiles to their faces.

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone that has been touched in any way by the storm.

I'm in North Carolina, a good 500 miles away, and yet we're housing hundreds of refugees in our sports facility. The scope of this thing is unbelievable, and I don't think there's a corner of the country it won't touch.

Hats off to Adam Baldwin, to the hundreds of Browncoats, and to the thousands of ordinary people who are stepping forward to help.

Just a quick update.

Adams and the Dragon*con browncoats Grand Total: $16,206.00!!!
New England Browncoats (so far) :$3,395.00

The support Adam put into this is overwhelming. Not to mention the generosity and willingness to help of the Browncoats. Its an amazing figure, but it doesnt have to stop there. If your able, if you can spare it then please give. Its never too late. The clean up will last months, if not years. Weather your donation goes to feeding a family, medicating the sick or helping to re build homes it will all help.

Thank you for your time. Thanks to browncoats everywhere for helping the cause and thank you to mr Baldwin..

Adam started the movement - the other BDHs followed suit, as did many other celebrities in the Walk of Fame at Dragon Con. The BDHs were on board right away, other people took a bit longer but they jumped in anyway, and that's what counts.

I have to say I nearly cried when I got to that part of your post, how very tragically fitting. In my relief efforts (beyond my donations) I have hired three refugees as servers in my restaurant. It is so sad. When I was filling out the form that asks whether they were 'permanent part-time' or 'seasonal part-time' it was so hard for any of them to answer as they have no idea when they will be able to go back or to what they will go back to. And the economic hardship on them is just taxing as there are ten of them living in one three bedroom condo, and just happy to be alive. And we too have no gasoline. I live in Destin, Florida and unfortunately as our tourist season ends (technically today) most of the businesses are cutting staff, not hiring. So it is still a really tough road ahead for them even in the 'safety' of their evacuation site. We were lucky enough to only get Tropical Storm winds and some storm surge from the outer rings of the storm. It could have been so much worse. I always thought I would stay, even through a five as we just dealt with Ivan last year and Dennis this year which were both fours right before they hit land and strong threes as they passed through and we did alright. I now know that I will evacuate, no matter what. I'm just lucky to have the means to do so. So many of the ones lost stayed because they couldn't afford to leave. That is why it is so very important to give whatever you can. I know a lot of people who don't because they can only give like $5 and figure its not enough so why bother. We have to remember that every cent counts.

I am proud to be a member of a group of people who can unite and give even outside the realm of our 'verse. We proved we had it in us to get a movie made from a cancelled show...I truly believe we are capable of anything and a force to be reckoned with.

My sympathies to all directly affected by this tragic storm.
