I applaud Joss' decision not to put out a director's cut. Be could include the scenes he cut as bonus on the DVD. That would be shiny.

You'd think it would be possible to have the scenes as extras, but also have the option to cut them into the movie at the correct places.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I trust in Joss that the BDM is the best movie he can make, so no director's cut does not really bother me.

Now I would like to see deleted scenes as extras on the DVD set. That would be shiny.

A very interesting interview, especially the audience testing, most probably with non-Browncoats in many instances.

It would be a kiss of death to talk about a Director's Cut of a movie that hasn't opened yet. Doesn't a Director's Cut imply that the Director is not satisfied with the way the movie was cut for release? Who would want to see a second-best cut?

I assume that this is moot, anyway. Didn't Universal give Joss complete creative control or something like it?

This option is technically possible but I have only seen it done once and that was on the THE ABYSS Special Edition DVD. On the top menu the viewer is given the choice of "Play Theatrical Version" or "Play Special Edition". The video information is on the same side of the DVD but through some electronic miracle only the scenes for the appropriate version are played. And, boy, talk about different versions!

I would love to have a longer version because, like Lord of the Rings fans in their world, I like to luxuriate in our 'verse. But I suspect a longer version would have a different feel to it. An example from sf literature: The uncut version of Stranger in the Strange Land was released after Heinlein's death. There is very little difference in substance. With a few exceptions, most of the cuts were of unnecessay words, adverbs, and description in order to get the word count down. But these cuts did affect the feel of the book: the cut version really moves whereas the uncut version is slower and more philosphical.
