Well, it's time for the networks to roll out their new shows. As we all have good taste in television (obviously), I'd like to know what shows you've seen that were impressive or utterly awful.

For what it's worth, here are the new shows that I've seen so far:

Prison Break - Yea - Addictive. Implausible, but entertainingly so, and the lame parts are fun to mock. Anything serial (as opposed to episodic) I'll give a chance to, and this hasn't let me down yet.

Rome - Yea - Grandiose. Brilliant. I'm not an expert on Roman history, but I remember Julius Ceasar the play and I did read Suetonius' Twelve Caesars. Anyway, intellectual posturing aside this show has compelling characters, both plebe (two soldiers in Caesar's army) and historical (Marc Antony was a jerk). Highly endorsed, but not for the kiddies. Romans were all about the nudity and public sex, and it's on HBO.

Weeds - Yea - Hilarious, sometimes heartbreaking. Kind of like Dead Like Me that way, which isn't surprising since this is on Showtime as well. I absolutely loved Mary-Louise Parker when she was on West Wing, and apparantly it hasn't faded at all. Everytime she smiles, I smile. Kevin Nealon is great as the pothead accountant-slash-city councilman.

Reunion - Nay, Nay, a Thousand Times Nay!! - Worst show I've seen in a very long time. Hack writing, bad acting, lame plot twists... There really was nothing good about this show. It is the acme of crappy. The peak of weak. It's so bad that the two preceding sentences look clever by comparision. Yeah, I know. Chyler Leigh really is beautiful, though.

So, anyone have comments on these or others? Are there new shows you want to see?

Prison Break - Boring. Boring. Boring. The new 24? Not even a patch. Not once was I remotely even engaged in the 2 hour premiere and I didn't come back for more.

Reunion - Part soap. Part mystery. Unbridled escapist entertainment. Is the acting bad? Sure. Is the writing mediocre. Yeah, I suppose. Is it worth it for the sheer nostalgia factor. Absolutely if you grew up in the eighties. Will it sustain that nostalgia and develop as the season continues? We'll see, but for now it makes my list.

Other hopefuls on my schedule - Bones; Supernatural; Twins; Threshold; Surface; How I Met Your Mother; Kitchen Confidential; Invasion; Night Stalker; Ghost Whisperer; Commander in Chief; Related. Of which I guess 4 or 5 will survive and 2 or 3 of those will actually be watchable.

Strange how we can have polar opposite views! At least we can agree on Firefly!
