They call me The Duke, mainly cos i can't find a way of making them stop!
Quote:

Q2What is your Quest?

Power, riches, ultimate happiness! (maybe that's too adventurous)
That, or to seek out new life forms! (still maybe too adventurous)
Or to find a ship, find a crew, and keep flying!
Quote:

Q3What is the airspeed velocity of a fully laden flying Monkey Nija?

It does depend on it's origin, but also of course how much chocolate it has eaten. And of course whether it was cadbury or galaxy, because galaxy can induse sluggishness. Nestle however can lead you're European Monkey Ninja in a highly halucagenic state where they are only able to fly backwards, seriously affecting their velocity!

*sigh*

Well, my enthusiasm for the BDM has been slightly counterproductive. I e-mailed a recent non-spoilery review to my sister and to my parents, to get them psyched about seeing it with us when we go down to Florida the end of this month. Alas, I'd overlooked the fact that my sister and my mother are nearly pathologically unable to sit through a movie where there's a lot of trauma delivered to characters they might care about. My mother, in particular, insists on total spoilers on everything that might be upsetting, well in advance, so she can decide whethere she'll watch. Strike two potential seats to see opening night. My father and my sister's husband might still be game to go, but it's looking more and more like it'll just be my wife and I.

Maybe this is part of why I left home at 17.

another rant:

So I'm talking to my dad yesterday and he's asking me what I want brought back from my grandparents' house when he and my mom go up there in Oct. Both my grandparents have passed away and now we're dividing stuff up amongst the family. I said to my dad that I didn't care so much what I got, just so long as the stuff would stay in the family and I'd get to pass it on to my kids. BIG MISTAKE. So then my dad said something about IF I had kids ONE DAY and then realized he probably stuck his foot in it and then started back tracking and saying stuff about how I had plenty of time left to get married and have kids if I chose to and how I was still young etc. etc. etc.

Translation: You're 27 and you're not married. What's wrong with you?

I was so annoyed at him. My baby sister made things worse by getting married 2 days after she graduated college. She was 22. And then my brother has a....lissa...so now both my parents are harping on me because I'm the eldest and I'm not dating anyone.

How is that fair? I had to give up going to back to school to take care of my grandparents and live in this little backwoods town where there is NOBODY around that I'd even consider dating, not that I meet men when I'm always lugging two 75 year olds around, I'm wasting what's left of my youth rotting here and then they make me feel bad because I'm not reproducing. I ask again, How is that fair?

end rant.

Sorry, that was just really really bothering me.

Please pass the chocolate martinis.

I never understood the (seemingly) American culture of get married young anyway...
Whats wrong with getting to know someone (and of course the right someone) before sticking a ring on their finger?
I mean, if you find the right person straight away, lucky you, but still, don't get married to them that week...

No, that's totally rant-worthy; good to get it off your chest.

I don't understand the mentality of people who feel they can envision the sort of life other people should be leading, and then pressure them into falling into line. Parents, politicians, pundits -- nobody gets to pick a lifestyle for anybody else. Half the social ills on the planet come from people pulling that crap, and the people it's directed at resenting it (and acting out on that).

No martini for me, thanks, but that black & tan looks kinda inviting.

Thankee, that'll hit the spot.

No, Spinny is just fine, it's a nickname I've had for years. There's a whole geeky backstory to that, maybe some day I'll bore with it. Spinland emerged from that, it's the name of the graphic art studio I tried to make a living with for a couple of years before I got a real job. Still have the old web site up: www.spinland.biz, haven't updated it in forever but I still use the domain for hosting images and other stuff now and then. I'd gotten to calling everything "spin-whatever" as a kind of joke.

In relationships and other major life decisions, the primary consideration is never to settle for anything less than 100% what you were looking for. It's better to say no and do without than to settle; the consequences of living with something less than you deserve aren't pretty, as I know from experience. People who pressure you to sell yourself short are doing you a discourtesy.

Serenity, I so know how that feels except from completely the other side of the story. I'm the first person to go to uni in my family and the comments I have had from grandparents, aunts, parents and so all saying 'have a career, don't get married, children are an unecessary tie' etc etc have caused me a few uncomfortable moments. I have no intention of ever having a career, I never want a 'proper' job, I can't wait to get married and children - well I guess I can skip on those. I like my pubs too much...

Heh; thanks. That CV page is as out-of-date as the rest of it. Some of the stuff I used there, I don't even have installed any longer, and the main modeling software I've been using since April isn't even mentioned. Maybe some day I'll overhaul the whole lot to reflect a hobbyist's approach and give more current stuff to look at. Maybe. Some day. Just hard to dredge up any motivation therefor.

You use Lightwave now don't you? Or was I speaking to someone else on that subject? I forget.
Anyway... I'm trying to learn Lightwave at the moment (cause its the most dissimilar to 3DS Max I can find and often used in TV animations) problem is I find it so counter-intuitive (maybe cause its so different to what I'm used to, maybe cause its multi-platform, I dunno...) that most of the time I end up swearing and threatening Lightwaves programmers with physical violence...

EDIT: Not literally threatening them, like camping outside their houses with shotguns or something... erm, no not at all...

Dearest Serenity,
I completely understand. Engaged once..big mistake! Am quickly approaching 29 and my folks are going crazy. You'd think they'd be happy that I've got Jake, but no. Dating for 5 years mean we should have been married and reproducing by now. I think at this point, Jake and I are putting off the formal commitment because our parents keep harping about the lack of one. Eh. It'll happen someday. And if not, at least I met a lot of great people on the way.

If a European Swallow is 24mph, and a stooping Falcon reaches 200mph, then I would estimate a European Monkey Ninja diving would be...ill advised.

*Enters the new thread feeling a little random..*

Hi guys...

I had a chat with Thatweirdgirl in relation to the 'cardboard cut out' of herself. We've come up with an idea that includes the cardboard cut out and everyone in Team Random, (if they wish).

It's a fun idea. We thought that it would be better to discuss and/or develop the idea, (or change it), with everyone first and make it official.

(I'll wait until TWG arrives to share more details.)

Keep flying!
