EDIT 9/19: Many of us thought it likely Ebert & Roeper would review Serenity on Oct. 2. However, it isn't listed in their lineup for that episode! Instead we have two extremely limited releases, one stinker and one that might be good (or not). Where is Serenity????

episode date - 10/02
"The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio" [9/28 NY LA 9/30 limited]; "Capote" [9/30 NY LA]; "The Greatest Game Ever Played" [9/30 wide]; "Into the Blue" [9/30 wide]

Here is the schedule for Ebert & Roeper for the next two weeks with the movie release dates included -

episode date - 9/18
"The Thing About My Folks" [16th limited 23rd wide] ; "Lord of War" [16th wide]; "Thumbsucker" [16th limited] ; "Everything Is Illuminated" [16th wide]

episode date - 9/25
"Corpse Bride" [16th limited 23rd wide]; "Flightplan" [23rd wide]; "Oliver Twist" [23rd limited 30th wide]; "Dear Wendy" [23rd wide]

According to this, if they review Serenity at all, it won't be until at least Oct. 2nd, AFTER opening day. There is always the possibility of two bad reviews (my reoccurring nightmare from the day I learned there would be a movie), but I think it's worth the risk for them to review it.

I think they always review a movie on the weekend it comes out unless its an early review, so it would make sence that it wouldn't be reviewed till there show on the 2nd because thats the 1st weekend it's out. Now if they don't review it on that show then we should start thinking they may not review it.

Personally, I think we'd be better off letting Universal and their marketing/executive folks handle this sort of thing.

However, if anyone does contact ANY reviewer or publication, PLEASE BE POLITE!!! Browncoats don't need any more bad publicity.

Serenity is coming. 9/30/05.

I do not think we have anything to worry about. If you look at the episode date for the review of Corpse Bride (which is directed by Tim Burton and stars Johnny Depp) it isn't until 2 days after the opening day. And you have to admit that Corpse Bride has a wider audience than Serenity might due to the director and lead actor.

I think they'll review the movie on Oct 2nd. If you go back and look at the dates you listed, then you will see that none of the movies have been reviewed before they are released. Nothing to worry about.

You'll notice none of the movies listed on that schedule are released after the date Ebert & Roeper are reviewing them. Time was, no self-respecting critic reviewed a film before it opened.

We should know Ebert's thoughts, at least, on the 30th, as he also writes reviews for the Chicago Sun-Times.

Every movie on that list get's wide release 2 days before the review. There is nothing to worry about here.

Look for Ebert's written review of Serenity to be posted here on 9/30:

www.suntimes.com/ebert

For those who only know him from his TV show, Ebert is an excellent writer who (IMHO) has turned film review writing itself into an artform.
