It's only a little more than two weeks before Serenity is released, and I've been thinking about where to watch the movie opening night here in Georgia.

At first, I reckoned it'd be good to see it at the ultra cool stadium theater seating at the Mall of Georgia's Regal Cinemas. But that's not seeming as cool as it once did. I reckon that's because of all the fanfare and attention Serenity's getting — not that that's a bad thing. But the fan base is obviously growing as evidenced at Dragon*Con. And, for me personally seeing the movie for the first time, I've got to find a more quiet, peaceful venue to enjoy and reflect on the flick without having the whopping and hollering that I'm sure will be present at the larger, more well known theaters.

I know just the place, too...and I ain't telling.

Can I ask you to reconsider? I am specifically going to be with a large group of Browncoats, in Raleigh NC, to see the premiere. I saw one of the screenings last spring, and it was incredible!!. Everyone laughed, gasped and chuckled at the same lines, at the same time. The energy in the room could be felt by everyone, and there was a sense of belonging, of being part of something bigger than yourself.

By all means, the second and third times you see it choose a quiet, out-of-the-way theater. THEN concentrate on the dialogue, camera angles, music and such. But this, as Joss keeps saying, is our movie, and we should make an event of seeing it, with people who love the 'verse as much as we do ourselves. To me, anything less would mean missing out on something.

Me, i'm going to Canton Six (Canton, MI)

They're a slightly rundown (but renovating, almost done!) more or less independant theatre with a very good pricing scale and a nice atmosphere.

What could be better than watching Serenity in CANTON, at an INDEPENDANT theatre ?

Sorry, but can't do it. When I was watching the show on television, I was the only one I knew at the time that was. I realize now there were a great deal more people that enjoyed it, but at the time it was like I was the lone fan. I kind-of liked that feeling too so I'm hoping to recapture a little of that, as strange as that may sound.

So, I'll jus tbe eating my popcorn and sipping my extra large coke with a big grin on my face.

I understand the "lone fan" thing. That's how I've felt this whole time, with the exception of y'all. However, sometimes the atmosphere of a packed theater can really do something to ya. I remember seeing "Alien" in the theater. It was packed and I could only sit with one other friend (and not the one I wanted to sit with, sigh). Anyway, that was probably the most phenomenal movie experience I've ever had, even though "Alien" wasn't the type of movie I enjoyed at the time. Oh, and I saw "Empire Strikes Back" in London, again a packed theater, but that time I don't even remember anyone else was there I was so enthralled.

Anyway (again). I'm planning on going to the show on opening night (of course) with the hubby and whoever else is there (hopefully lots and lots). Then, the following Monday I'll go back during the day when most folks are at work/school and enjoy it again. Maybe on Wednesday, too. Heck, maybe Tuesday and Thursday, too. :)

I'm not saying the packed theater can't be fun. I loved seeing the Lord of the Rings stuff opening nights...Spidey too. Actually, it wasn't too enjoyable when I saw The Two Towers. The IMAX seats were way uncomfortable, and I swear they must have had the air off and it got incredibly hot. But I digress. Firefly's different in that it's a relatively new thing. However, if anyone's in north Georgia and wants to come along, I reckon I wouldn't mind. I'll be the guy in the Colts hat.
