This one?

This one?

Or This One?

I like the big German best cause it's weird - but i prefare the international ones or "White" over the "Blue" - it just looks more kickass movie.

They all have their perks, and tease at different yummies of the movie. Personally though, I like the German one best, just has the most personality, though the American poster has a lot going on that will get people walking by to stop and look at it for a minute. I loved the Australian poster till I saw the German one, just feels so much more refined.

I'm a bit bothered that the second one smacks of B-movie.

Maybe some clever Photoshopper could put the second poster's images on a blue background like the first poster, maybe huh?

The German one looks better, visually. I mean, just look at it..River is freaking HOT!! But I don't like the 'message' it puts forward. It just doesn't fit, so to say. Inara? With a gun?? PLEASE.

For an ad campaign for the BDM, I much prefer the 1st poster. But man, River looks great in both posters, but DAMN! I really like the German version.

I prefer the blue American one. Just seems more mysterious and intriguing.

So here is the german Guy who can translate you these strange words:
The German subtitle means "Escape into New Worlds"
And the really disturbing Line below the credits: "Some have weapons. She is dangerous."
And yes, it sounds that strange in german, too.

Is your objection that it's out of character or that it's unpleasant to look at, like Nathan Fillion disliking seeing Jewel Statie/Kaylee witha gun? We've seen Inara with a gun, faggy looking little thing that it was.

IMHO None of them reflect the spirit or stlye of the show/movie,but if I have to choose...I hate the second two.

W/ out getting into specifics, I agree w/ the sentiment that Inara w/ a gun like that just doesn't fit in w/ the spirit of the show/movie. Yeah, I know,we all saw 'Trash', but for the sake of advertising the BDM... naw.

As for the 'look' of the poster, I actually like the sexier, blade wielding River better.

" They don't like it when you shoot at 'em. I worked that out myself. "

right... living here in germany, i feel i may be able to lend a hand in the translation here (though bear in mind, my german's not yet great).

see, although i don't really like this poster all that, as i don't feel it fits in the whole firely series' theme much, i'll give credit where it's due.

see, german's normally far less ambiguous than english. this is what makes english as entertaining as it it. anyhow, they've managed to incorporate quite a bit of ambiguity in here, if i'm reading it right... let me explain:

"Flucht in neue Welten". now, flucht means escape, flight, getaway... so, as a german reader, which is it? simply journeying to new worlds? see, that's how it reads, to those who don't know the series. but for those who do know it, you'll see it reads more as getaway, or escape. the fact that serenity is perpetually flying from planet to planet under the radar. escaping? definitely that too! see, the caption works.

next: "Die Einen haben Waffen. Sie ist gefährlich". right, this is highly ambiguous. literally translated: "they have weapons. she is dangerous". but there's so much going on here it's crazy. german, unlike english, and much like french, assigns a gender to all nouns. male/female/neuter. "they have weapons" is pretty clear, but the next sentence is loading with ambiguity, as i'll explain.

Sie: could mean "she". most obvious interpretation. it could also mean "they". beacause a weapon is female in german, it could also mean "it". so the caption could read, "they have weapons, they (the people who have them) are dangerous", "they have weapons, they (the weapons themselves) are dangerous", or "they have weapons, she is dangerous". now those who've watched firefly will obviously lean towards the latter interpretation. clearly. i think the creative team behind the design of this poster deserve a doffing of my hat. i reckon they've been pretty smart here. it leaves the german public wondering. it's not as clear as google's translater would have you think.

that's it. hope i've helped. if any thoroughbred germans read this and would like to point out any mistakes, i'd be glad to hear from you.

"Did he just go crazy and fall asleep?"

A German speaker myself, I did find the last to be a bit obsure, probably intentionally so. I have a feeling we're dealing with an Idiom here, but I'm rusty enough not to speak with any authority. I checked the Babelfish translation and it rendered it, "The weapons have the one" (alternately, "The one has weapons"; don't forget the word order in german sentence structure can be turned all around): which turns the meaning a bit inside out wouldn't you say? The weapons possess one > the one is possessed of weapons > the one is a weapon: she is dangerous. The other take would be instead of "They have Weapons" but "They are Armed: She is Dangerous". I think it's a deliberate play on words. But that's just me...

"Well, here I am."

I'd have to say that I like the first one best. I feel that it conveys the tone of the BDM better.

Okay, it has been noted that this thread is really old, but I'm gonna give my opinion anyways!
I like that German one best, mainly because I think in the blue one, Summer Glau looks nothing like herself, and Nathan looks kinda like Charlie Sheen, which is just plain weird. Although the colors on that first one are nicer...

You were busy trying to get yourself lit on fire. It happens.

Really old? Who cares?

Now, me, I like the third one, because Summer really, really big with equally large weapons, wearing that... freaking cool, peeps. And, the fact that I wouldn't have been able to understand it without the German translation of someone up there just adds to the fun-ness (I don't know about you, but not being able to understand a language sometimes makes it more interesting).
