I’d love to see Firefly the movie-- but would they start up where they left off, or would it be like “Serenity” and start in the beginning for all of those who missed the already aired episodes? Because I have a feeling we’d be seeing a lot of what we already know. Not that I’m complaining, I’d still go see to see it four or five times a day.

And you know what, it sucks that they cancelled John Doe. If it wouldn’t have been for that show I would of never watched Firefly at all. I loved all of the useless information.

It's too bad that Bermann referred to Whedons efforts in the past tense. I wish he would have said Joss "is" instead of "was" planning to refashion and revive as a movie.

If the movie does well then firefly might be picked up a series again. Probably not by fox but they are on record as saying that they wont stop another network from picking it up.

Slightly different spin on what Gail Berman said in the L.A. Times.

"Berman said that the futuristic "Firefly" combined too many genres for it to connect with audiences, but that creator Joss Whedon was developing a feature based on the series."

Sounds to me like that says that the show was too real for people to conect with, I don't know where they find these people.

I'm sure I'm very much in the minority on this one, but I think this is in a way disappointing. It means that (for the moment) more episodes aren't really being pursued.

I never understood when Star Trek: The Next Generation started up and we FINALLY had Star Trek on TV EVERY WEEK again, all the fans immediately started shouting MOVIES. Hmmmm. 26 hours a year, or 2 hours every 2 years?

Now at this point I'm excited to get Firefly back in any form (t-shirt? Heh heh heh.) and maybe if we get a movie they'll finally make my Serenity model/toy/motor home. But watching a Joss show is like reading a book (not Shepard Book, mind). And a movie is more like a short story.

I know more folk that have started watching the show after it was canceled than did when it was on. So maybe when we get EVERYBODY WE'VE EVER MET to go see it (AND buy the DVD), they'll get a market for it. Hmmmm.

Of course, if it's a real movie, maybe one of the womenfolk will get nekid...

Not to be a bucket of cold water, but...

...the wording of Berman's sentence -- even though it was paraphrased -- it remarkably dodgy. Sure, Joss is 'planning' to refashion and revive it as a movie. I'm planning to be the monarch of Argentina. It doesn't mean that his plan will ever see financial backing or support.

Berman didn't say Fox was on board or that anyone had expressed interest in picking something like this up, just that Joss was planning to do it.

So keep your fingers crossed, but, in my opinion, we're still one helluva giant distance away from seeing any new Firefly content in a long time.

I'm pretty sure she meant big-screen movie, not TV movie.

I wouldn't take the wording seriously at all. I saw that Berman comment in three different articles all with a slightly different spin, depending on the author of the article.

As far as the movie versus series thing, the plans for any more series have been dormant for quite awhile now, and I'm just glad to hear some public confirmation that Joss is still behind Firefly in some form. I think most of us are fantasizing that the movie will be a moderate to big hit and justify re-starting the series again.

Indeed. Check out this Bermanistic hypocrisy when she defends this Bruckheimer production called "Skin."

"We're not going to have the show live in that world," Berman said, referring to the adult film industry. "It will live in the world I'm comfortable with, which is character, character, character."

So she loves ". . . character, character, character . . ." eh? Where was her belief system when she crushed Firefly, probably one of the most character-driven dramas ever on TV, and Whedon's heart? And ours?

Continuing with SergeantX:

Got it in one. Thanks.

You have to remember that without Gail Berman, "Buffy" never would've been a TV series, and——most likely——"Firefly" never would have been made.

1) I'm scared about the whole "refashion" thing.

2) I'm not gonna say nice things at this lady's funeral. She might have given us Firefly, but she took it away as well. I feel that she didn't listen to the fans, and she's still not listening to the fans. There is an actual legitimate interest here, and she's ignoring a gold mine of action figures and t-shirts.

RANDOM

I think Berman actually works for Twentieth Century Fox, not the Fox TV network.

The Fox TV network was responsible for all of Firefly's woes. Including the horrible scheduling and cancellation. While both the Fox Network and Twentieth Century are part of News Corporation, they are entirely separate entities that don't often listen to each other.

Twentieth Century produced "all" of Mutant Enemy's shows, (Angel, Buffy & Firefly) even though they all ran on different TV networks.

In related news, during the Succubus Club radio interview last Wednesday, ( www.thesuccubusclub.com )Tim Minear said (and I quote)

"Firefly is not yet dead, and that is really all that I can say"

He also said he was busy recording the commentary for the Firefly DVD last week and that it is slated to include the Gag Reel, 3 non-aired episodes (I thought there were 4?) and lot's of extras. good stuff.

I am sitting here at 2:23 a.m. thinking about Firefly and other shows. I have been wondering about other shows that have also been cancelled and thinking, "how many have been revived?" What are the actual odds of Firefly coming back? Which other shows have done it? How many? I bet one of you out there knows how to get the info I'm thinking about.
