I'm Really Worried! Is Our BDM Not Playing Where It Should?

Alright, so I recheck Fandango. The Regal by my house, Savannah 10, is not playing our BDM. No problem, I think. So I go to the website for Carmike Cinemas, which runs Wynnsong 11 right next to the Regal. I check Friday. No dice. The only screening listed for the Savannah, GA area is at the Regal-owned Eisenhower Cinemas 6, while a sentimental favorite as it's the last original movie theater in this city from the early '80s, is in a shopping center with not alot of traffic!

The reason this worries me is because the two newer (built in 1998) theaters are much more apparent, consumer-wise, and very open to business (it's right across the street from Savannah Mall and a Target store) flow-over.

I sincerely hope that Universal pushes the theater count to 3,000 or at least 2,700. I don't want this movie to be shoved into smaller theaters just so The Greatest Game Ever Played or Jessica Alba's water-logged movie can unspool on screens that should go to Serenity.

I was really geeked out at work as a co-worker is now a raving Browncoat and we were talking about Firefly and Serenity when he came in to work before I left tonight. Then I eat dinner and check showtimes and get this shocking bit of news.

Am I in the wrong here, fellow Browncoats? Should I just wait a day or so to see if anything changes? I'm really nervous now...

---Addendum----

I've calmed a bit as none of the theater showtimes in my area, at least the ones currently available, list Into The Blue yet and we all know that'll be playing everywhere.

So I'm crossing fingers and toes here that Serenity will get a shiny presence in our local theaters here in Savannah, GA!

---UPDATE--

Added @ 8:33AM on 09/27

Well, I'm afraid that my suspicions have been confirmed. I just checked Fandango before heading off to work and Into The Blue was added to one of the theaters in my area. So I looked around again - yep, Serenity's only playing at Eisenhower Cinemas 6!

If this is truly the case Browncoats then I think we really need to surprise America and pull in some shiny grosses for our BDM this weekend. Then, the theater count will be forced to grow. Just a thought. And let's not forget week two --it's our most critical week. Films, especially sci-fi (usually 60% or so), have a sharp drop the second week of release. Let's keep the numbers going into week two!

I'd say just wait.

Right now, I can't find it listed anywhere in Indianapolis, and we had a screening. I'm not going to stress it until Thursday...

Out of 12 theatres in the St. Louis area, it's shown to be playing in one.

Out of the ten theaters that show up with my zip code (30 miles? 60? I forget), not a one has showtimes for ANY movie for Friday, except for one that shows old or "art" films (one that won't be showing Serenity for years).

So I wouldn't worry yet, some theaters just haven't published their schedules for Friday.

The people I talked to at the theatres here in Charleston, SC told me that they would not have a list of what's playing this weekend (or tickets, for that matter) until at least late tomorrow evening or Wednesday... so I wouldn't sweat it just yet ;)

I take comfort in these posts b/c I have been losing sleep over these same concerns here in Baton Rouge...surely we can't all be in jepordy of not getting the BDM in our areas. I bought a brown coat (on sale) just for the occasion.

Anyways I live in Upstate NY and Fandango says:
"Showtimes are not yet available in your area."
So don't worry... yet...

In the words of Douglas Adams, "Don't Panic!"

As another has already noted on this thread, a lot of theaters haven't posted for 9/30/05 yet; I'm lucky, in that my own home town (Concord, CA) has at least one decent theater that has posted for Friday, and it's showing the BDM -- now I can relax. In the slot, five by five.

Noteworthely, checking local urban centers on Fandango, the high-end Century theaters in San Jose have nothing posted for the 9/30 date -- except that four of the five theaters have a single listing each -- just the showtimes for Serenity!

Can't you just see the scenario? Some harried regional manager has gotten word that the phones at all his theaters are ringing 30-50-100 times a day with the same gorram question: "Are you showing Serenity on Friday?"

"For God's sake Phil, I don't care if you don't post until Wednesday normally, just list this one film in advance, so we can get some work done!"

Nashville Regal Cinemas say they won't get their bookings for our Big Damn Weekend until sometime Tuesday, which is making me crazy. No advance ticket sales available yet.

They'll be up on the Fandango and Moviefone websites sometime after that.
