CHANNAIN

i DO aim to misbehave

A packed house at the Marcus Theater in Oakdale cheered as the Universal logo swirled onto screen, then again and even louder as the name of our beloved tenth character revealed itself in white relief against black, only to merge seamlessly with the ship herself.

As always, there was a chill upon seeing Serenity again, but also in anticipation of what was about to unfold onscreen. I've had the pleasure of seeing it four times now, and although I still love it, the agony of anticipation rattles my nerves. Every. Single. Time. At the end I was once again undone.

But before that, Marcus Theaters, The Source, Neemer Fieger, and the Minnesota Independents did a wonderful service for the survivors of the recent hurricane-induced tragedies in the Gulf. Contributions were collected at last Tuesday's advance screening of the film, and a few more last night for the charity silent auction and merchandise sale.

When the night was done and the receipts accounted for, we determined that the auction and sale had raised $971.75. All proceeds will be contributed to the American Red Cross.

On behalf of Marcus Theaters, The Source Comics and Games, Neemer Fieger and the Minnesota Independents, A MIGHTY BIG THANK YOU goes out to each and every one of you who contributed items or gave their support at the auction.

A MIGHTY BIG THANK YOU also goes to those who engaged in quiet little bidding wars, and to those who bought that large T-shirt when you wanted an X-large, or bought a cap when you couldn't buy a T-shirt - for buying a card for 25 cents! Each and every teeny tiny contribution made a huge difference.

Serenity is still flying, people. Doing the impossible makes us mighty.

A good time was had by all. *

Again, thanks to all that came to the show, that bought cool swag and gifts, that donated, that bid, that gave me popcorn and snacks.

I hope to see y'all again as we go see Serenity several times over the coming weeks.
