Consensus on this site is that the movie is good (surprise!), but I'd like to hear some reviews of the crowds. If you go, please take a look -- age, sex, apparent socio-economic group. How big the crowd is. Is the theater 75% full? How many are freaks coming back for their 17th visit and how many look like normal humans that may have stumbled in because they're curious? The drop-off for the already-enlightened fans will be quick. A movie has legs when it appeals to people across the spectrum.
Pulp Fiction changed the movie industry because it was in theaters for nine months. I'd like to know if Serenity will still be playing at Christmas.

INSIGHT SPINNER

The theater was 85-90% full, mighty white and younger...a prepoderance of white, mainly males in the rows behind me...I assume it was a meet-up. The rest seemed like smaller groups of mixed fans and normal humans. I saw the son of a friend...we talk SF from time to time...he's a FF fan. A very few black folks, myself included and an old intern/employee of mine who never saw FF but said the movie was one of the best she had EVER seen. The girl is remarkably smart and talented or would never have hired her after an internship...she was right on the money. I saw it with a friend...2 near 50's females, one black one white and her teenaged daughter.

Here’s how it is:

I saw a preview screening on Tuesday (both press and civilian) and it was completely packed. I could tell there were both Browncoats and…er, non-Browncoats in the crowd: I heard laughing at inopportune moments in addition to fans' impassioned cries of shock at certain dramatic moments.

Then again, my parents went to see it last night (opening night) while I was at work, and they said the crowd was fairly sparse. HOWEVER, this is Homecoming weekend in my area, and my parents also said that the entire multiplex was nearly empty (especially for a Friday night). So, the lack of crowd might have just been a result of the lack of crowd at the theater in general.

Besides, it was graded an A- in the Detroit News (once again, in the area), so I'm really hoping that inspires folks to come see it.

I'm in LA, and the theater was completely sold out. When the employee announced that fact, there was cheering, so I'm guessing most of us were fans. Still, I'm sure a lot of people there hadn't seen the show. It was mostly late 20s professional types, but a pretty even mix of male and female.

REGRESSION

Shockingly empty.
I'm in Sydney, Australia. Saw the BDM on the Thursday it came out. (Hehe, it came out here on the 29th. Plus timezones make...) And again on the Saturday.

I saw about 5 other people in the theatre. Together with the 5 people I brought along makes 10.
On the Saturday, still bout the same, 12 others, plus my 8 makes 20.

From my perspective, all hope is lost...

FALLENANGEL

The crowd from my theater was I think 85% full maybe. I counted(yes, I counted.) and I think there was more than 30 ppl. Dunno. It was mostly adults, white middle aged men and women. there was some teens, not much kids. My crowd was a very good crowd. They laughed at all the right parts. A few laughed at some parts that many ppl didn't get, and clapped( as well as me and my nephew) at the end of the movie, so I assume that those ppl were definate Firefly fans.
It was great!
