The realy cool things are the theater count/average numbers.

LETS KEEP UP THE MOMENTUM!

XEROGRAVITY

That's kind of depressing. Projections were for the film to hit 14-17 million on it's opening weekend. I read somewhere that it'll have to gross 80 million minimum to warrant a sequel (that includes ticket sales, DVDs and merchandising, etc.). You've got to figure Universal put out 40 million to have it produced, and their take will be in the realm of 55 percent of the overall take.

Notable things Pro & Con...

Dismally small numbers of actual theatres showing it by comparison. Flight Plan has been resoundingly denounced as a horrible movie, a real schizophrenic sleeping pill. Still topped the BDM by a cool million or so in spite of the stench. HOWEVER... for the few theatres carrying it, apparently they're having high numbers.

Universal did a lousy job marketing the movie. Few TV spots, little effort in promotions, etc. All very assbackwards IMHO.

It seems to be a social taboo for some critics to sully their reputation to speak highly of anything sci-fi. Some give lousy reviews, some seem to avoid it all together as if the movie doesn't exist. I think I heard a few of them referred to on a Joss fansite as "emotionally constipated", and having "hipper than thou" attitudes. Woot! Couldn't agree more.

Finally... the movie has yet to open up in foreign markets. Firefly has a disproportionately larger fanbase overseas on a per capita basis (apparently moreso in UK).

Hopefully the fan buzz will keep Serenity on an even keel with sustained ticket sales. I'm hoping so. I need another dose in the future. Don't forget, Star Wars started out with a slow burn in the theatres, and was nearly a forgettable flop (despised by critics as always). Buzz revived it and look how that turned out.

No such thing as gravity. The Earth just sucks.

Folks, I can only buy so many tickets on my own! Drag your friends and get to the theatres already! Sheesh.
