Well there you go, Orson Scott Card shows his support for Serenity. Its great when one of my favourite authors thinks the same way I do about something. Maybe he should approach Joss to help get Enders Game made. If there is anyone better at casting and building a large cast who gets along it's Joss. If some of you haven't read 'Enders Game' then you should it is just a brutal and intelligent as Firefly.

I spoke with Jewel about Orson's previous review of Firefly (one which I asked him to write, but maybe I had nothing to do with, lets face it I am no one, so very unlikely he got my email). He had put in one remark about Jewel's 'Kaylee' which most people didn't like and I asked Jewel about it (felt a bit guilty myself since I had requested the review) and she was fine with it, and said apart from that bit the review was excellent.

Well this one is miles better, he truely understands what Firefly and Serenity are all about. So anybody who snarked him with his last review, get over it and listen to what the man actually says.

Heres to the awesome Orson!

This is a stunning review from an excellent author. Word is this man doesn't suffer fools gladly. I think that to say that this is similar to how he would like Ender's Game portrayed is the highest compliment that he could pay.

Absolute yay.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Fabulous review by Mr Card.

Some of the things he had to say:

Quote:

I'm not going to say it's the best science fiction movie, ever.

Oh, wait. Yes I am.

So here's what I have to say about Serenity:

This is the kind of movie that I have always intended Ender's Game to be (though the plots are not at all similar).

And this is as good a movie as I always hoped Ender's Game would be.

And I'll tell you this right now: If Ender's Game can't be this kind of movie, and this good a movie, then I want it never to be made.

I'd rather just watch Serenity again.

Joss Whedon is not as artistically edgy, but is every bit as inventive, and he has the common touch. Like Shakespeare, he doesn't have to show off to prove himself an artist, he only has to tell the story his way, and the art takes care of itself.

Now if that's not a ringing endorsement, I don't know what is! :D That's awesome.

Oh yeah, and "Awesome Orson" say that three times fast!

Well that was a fantastic review.

And wouldn't it something if Joss one day got to direct Enders Game? :)

That couldn't be more true. Card is known for bashing anything he doesn't like relentlessly (and there's alot of things Sci-Fi that he doesn't like.)

It's absolutely astounding that he gives this much praise to anything.

Huzzah!

That's a great review but did he have to compare the characters relationships to Friends?

Absolutely. It is a demonstration to those out there who say "I don't like Sci fi" that in good science fiction the story works in any genre. You should never refuse any genre of films or stories in general. It is the stories themselves that are good, and the point that the characters are a family and all essential and interrelated like in Friends (something almost everyone has seen at least one episode of) simply drives the point home that this movie isn't just sci fi, its a complex story (not that Friends is complex, but you see my point I hope).
