I'm a new member, so forgive me if this has been addressed in the past.

Am i like the only one who would much rather see Firefly come back than see more movies? Don't get me wrong, i loved the movie, seen it twice so far & have no intent on stoppin any time soon, but i'd much rather see Firefly Season II coming than Serenity II.

I've not heard/read/seen anything specific but it seems like there is NO chance of this happening. Is that so?

There's no need to be tellin ya how different Firefly is from all the rubbish on TV these days. Surely Firefly could find a home somewhere... please?

Any news on this? Anyone?

You're not the only one, I think most people that love firefly and can do basic math (2 hours every three years or one hour every week) would much rather see Firefly come back to the small screen. Unfortunately Firefly/Serenity's chances of returning at all don't seem that great at the moment.

There was a running poll on this website a while back about this issue. I don't know if it has been archived somewhere. I've tried to find it but can't.

I've been wondering about the idea of, say, 6 or more Made-for-TV movies a year. Sort of like they did with "Columbo".

You could then do slower, more intimate, more arc-based, character driven storytelling like "Firefly" rather than intense, epic-scale stories like "Serenity".

I've read that Universal has the movie rights but that Fox retained the television rights for 5 years. Where would Made-for-TV movies fall?

If Serenity is a middling box office sucess, would Made-for-TV movies be a viable alternative?

Or, if all else fails, how about a lower budget Serenity II? (Remember that the Star Trek movies were re-started with the low budget ST II: Wrath of Khan).

If memory serves Fox publicly announced that they would not stand in the way of someone else taking Firefly.

Since Firefly is a product that they are still selling, and whether or not a TV show will have more episodes effects the value of the existing ones, them not giving up the rights if someone wanted them could be false advertising, and I’m told the laws against that are fairly harsh.

On the other hand I could be looking too far into it.

Something needs to be done i say; a petition, floods of e-mail, something!

I'll admit I wasn’t a fan of the show when it aired on TV…but only because I didn’t know about it. I hardly watch TV, there is nothing on worth watching. I became a fan when a friend handed me the DVD set. He said watch it. I looked at it & was like, “a western with spaceships? Sounds pretty lame.” I was never one for westerns & I don’t like genera-mixing. He said is from Joss Whedon. I was like, “so, I’m not a Buffy or Angel fan.” But my friend insisted I give it a shot, so I did… and oh my I am sooo glad I did. Firefly is hands down the best thing I’ve seen on TV in a looong time…ever in fact. And, well 1 season just ain’t enough.

It’s all Joss’ fault. He put out a damn fine show, got me to love each & every character on the show, got me excited about watching TV again, then… it ended. I know FOX is to blame for canceling the show, but gorramnit, we need to fight harder to get it back on TV. 2 more movies, even if they are as good as Serenity, won’t be enough.

Bring back Firefly I say!

Ultimately I believe in quality vs quantity. Yes Joss Whedon is imaginative and brilliant but he is also human. Say Firefly did come back. Wouldn't you be afraid that eventually it would come to a point where the show's quality began to deteriorate? Where the jokes weren't funny and the storylines were rehashed? The reason Serenity was made was because the fans loved the TV show, every episode of Firefly was gold. How long could it stay that way? Buffy and Stargate SG1 are both shows that kinda got worse in their later seasons. If it comes to that, I'd rather have another movie that was as good as Serenity was.

Eventually the quality would drop, sure, but after how many seasons? 2, 3, 4? I don't think season 2 would suck, nor would season 3...and i'd rather have those than Serenity II & III. I don't need a $50M budget movie. That's not what i fell in love with :-)

Anyway, not to beat a dead horse... i'm just sad, that's all :-(

i think i can probably cope with an episode or two in seasons 6 and 7 being dissapointing.

first of all - welcome, welcome, welcome. now on to more important business: there are probably going to be two other movies before (and IF) the series gets up and running again. I'd love to have Firefly back.

just to let you know. that is completely made up. it's a rumor that has been circulating for a while, going from a 5 years to 20 years. The rumor was addressed in an interview with Joss and Nathan, and there is no time limit set by fox. In reality, for some reason, Nathan was the one who started it.

Well I don't think FOX has the rights any more or some thing cause Firefly is on Scifi now (They have been showing the episodes for past couple months).

Anyways the likely hood of there being a 2nd season or 2nd movie I'd say is very good. Serenity has been doing great so far. Can't forget about how much the DVD will sell when the movie comes out. Oh and surely the sales of the DVD Box Set of Firefly has increased as of late with many new people buying it. I myself.

Pretty much Firefly was already really populare before Serenity, and now I wouldn't be surprised if the fanbase of Firefly has doubled.

See, I think with a TV series instead of only further movies would achieve both quality and quantity. The characters had to come off differently in the movie--some, you never even got to see much of their other sides (Kaylee, e.g.; the events over the TV season did plenty more to establish the kind of feelings she had for Simon).

With more movies, there's always the push to 're-introduce' the characters over and over again. They've had to do that thrice now, including the movies (and considering there's so much background, it wasn't so possible to do that effectively on the silver screen). I think another TV season (or two... or twenty) would do Firefly much more justice than another movie. With so many major, three-dimensional characters, the only way they'll get a fair share of screen time is on TV; that's why Firefly works better on a small-screen format.

Don't get me wrong. I still loved the movie, and wouldn't mind seeing more Firefly in any format. I just got preferences. KF

A new series would definitely be better, more plot threads, more plot development, more intricate plots, more character development, and more recurring characters.

Am I the only one who thinks or has thought of them doing a 2nd Season of Firefly and then another movie as kind of the season finale would be really kool?

The logistics of doing a movie and a series simultaneously would make that impossible. I really don’t care if they ever make another movie if it means the series would come back. The movie was great, but I want characters, not a spectacle...well a bit of a spectacle would be nice :-)

Either would be great, but ideally I'd like another series.

Serenity closed off most of the doors that Firefly opened. I have NO idea what they would put ina sequel, ther doesn't seem to be any angle they can come from.

But if there was another series, there's be much more space to open new doors, so then we can have a Serenity II when there's enough to work with.

Joss has stated that he has plenty of ideas for Serenity sequels.

I could dig a second season of Firefly. Heck, I could dig the remainder of the first season! But if all I can have is a Serenity sequel or two, I'll take that, too, and gladly.
