Were there ANY animals in the BDM?

I didn't notice in the first viewing and on the second viewing I looked especially as they rode the Mule into the Bank Vault town. But I didn't see any animals. However, I did see the standard "animal action monitoring" notice from the American Humane Association in the credits.

As a fan, I would have liked to see at least one horse and it would have been appropriate to the technology level of the Bank Vault town. But, I suppose that would've screamed "space western" rather that "SF action-adventure". Just wondering, though.

I think I saw a big lizard thing in it. But I could be making that up.

Yeah, I distinctly remember one closeup of a huge disgusting lizard in a cage lapping up a chunk of raw meat. Was it on Beaumont?

It was indeed on Beaumonde. I believe it was a Komodo dragon. There may have been a few other amminals around in the same scene.

I don't remember any others, though there might have been some in the Haven sequences.

Ah! Now I remember the lizard. I wasn't sure if it wasn't CGI special effects or not.

But there weren't any horses or cows were there?

It was an iguana.

A shot of goldfish opens a scene. And fish, the last time I checked, count as "animals".
There may have been scenes shot with animals (horses, dogs, whatever) that never made it into the final cut of the BDM.
It doesn't matter.
If there are animals on the set, there will be reps from the Humane Society there, and the caveat will be on the screen.
Which is fine and dandy by me.

Yeah, I noticed a credit for "Wild Animal Trainer" or some such, and my husband & I puzzled and puzzled.

So, the goldfish, the iguana... were there chickens?
Doesn't Joss have a thing about chickens?

ROFL!! YES! Oh man, first viewing me, my wife, and my friends all saw "Wild Animal Trainer" and were like "Animals? There were animals in the movie?" And all we could think of were the goldfish, but second time through I saw the iguana and stuff. :)

Thank you so much. The first time I saw the credits I was so puzzled. They have "wild animal trainer" and then right after that they have "animal trainer." All I could come up with was the iguana and the fish.

So then I was trying to figure out which one counted as "wild"

I didn't spot the rooster either, and it seemed to me that cocky lil bird (bad pun!) was in every episode somewhere...

During the reaver attack, there were chickens in their cages as their owners were being attacked I think.

The Animal Humane Society wasn't much on the job if you ask me. There was horrendous cruelty to animals as was made obvious by River's statement .... "I swallowed a bug."

Oh, no. My sides hurt.

I like Joss' answer from the "Joss Answers Questions" link:
What did the two animal handlers mentioned on the end titles of Serenity contribute to the filming process?
