Ok, you know how sometimes you go to a movie and you have those people who like to yell somthing out when sometimes something happens.

Well I heard this....

"Dude...FLY!!!" during battle scenes when Serenity was trying to get passed all those battle ships.

I just had to share! I

SPOILER--DON'T READ ANY FURTHER IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE!!!

I hung around after all three shows and there were groups of people each time, just standing and sitting around, inside and outside of the auditorium, discussing the movie. I heard exclamations about the effects, funny lines being repeated and lots of questions about why the pilot had to die. But my favorites were, "This show was on TV? When? Why didn't I ever see it? Is it coming back?"

I usually just smiled to myself and kept walking--real slow so I could still hear--but I did share a a few Firefly factoids with a lone gentleman at the matinee I went to by myself. Afterwards, I was stuck in traffic and he pulled up next to me and STARTED ASKING ME MORE QUESTIONS! I was shouting answers back to him until traffic started moving again. I told him about this site and invited him to learn more about the show from us. He had started watching the SciFi channel's Friday night shows and got hooked. He was really upset to learn that this was not a new show that the movie was an introduction to. When I told him the show was from 2002 and only had a partial season before it was cancelled, he was stunned. As am I to this very day (FOX).

I can't imagine us not getting another movie out of this. It's just that good.

Semi-Spoiler, maybe.

I'll admit it wasn't funny, but it's something I only heard the second time around, 'cause I'm pretty sure I was one of the people whispering / shouting / breathing it the first time.

It was the word, "NO!" and the theater was full of it.

The absolute funniest thing I heard wasn't in my theatre, but my friend back in Nashville (who caught the showing that most browncoats were at, it seems) relayed it to me.

At the end, when Simon and Kaylee finally go at it, and fall to the floor on top of each other, one person in the audience calls out: "Have good sex!"

between the universal symbol and the start of the movie, me and my brother shouted at the top of our lungs "YOU CAN'T STOP THE SIGNAL!!!" (my idea) muah ha ha. However, if it had come from another browncoat i would have been disappointed with them.

Lets see....

When Serenity wasn't changing course and then all of a sudden all those Reavers showed up, I was like "Oh shit!" with a huge ass grin on my face.

I don't actually recall any one yelling out any thing. I said a few things, but just to myself. Don't know if others could hear me.

Funny story. I'm in the theater Friday night at 7:20pm. Sitting directly behind me is a group of elderly black women, not a'one younger than 70. Here's the conversation:

EBW#1 - Could you tell us what the movie is about again?

EBW#2 - Oh yes, [pulls out a pamphlet, begins to read the standard press description] 500 years in the future, [blah blah - she reads the whole thing very slowly, while the other ladies listen closely] ... between the carnivorous reavers and the all powerful alliance.

EBW#3 - Is it like Star Wars?

EBW#2 -Oh no! It's much better than Star Wars.

EBW#3 - Oh good.

-- after the movie --

That's great. The last time I saw it - Sunday matinee - there was who I thought to be an elderly white woman by herself. She wasn't as old as I thought (maybe 50ish), but still very surprising.

I managed to sit in front of a group of fans who hadn't seen it yet. Maybe I'm evil, but I love stting near fans who haven't seen it yet so I can hear their reaction to certain events.

I usually love to watch movies in absolute silence so I can concentrate and I don't have people in my ear during important scenes saying: "and who was he again?" That being said, I saw the first showing of Serenity here in Aus. (at least the first on the release date) and the crowd was awesome. They reacted with every appropriate emotion at the right time, just as if they were die-hard fans. In fact most probably were, given that those who stayed til the end credits joined me in a little sing along over the instrumental version of the Firefly theme. It was great to see the emotion coming from the crowd, and inspiring to see everyone so involved. I didn't even mind when people were whispering their encouragement to the screen during the flick. Hell, I was right there with them.

Say no more. Evil's still afoot and I'm almost out of that Nancy-boy hair-gel that I like so much. Quickly to the Angelmobile, away!

That reminded me: you know those annoying little "manners minders" flashed on the screen before a film (at least here in the States where apparently we need them)? When the one about turning of your cell phone came on someone yelled out "Or you'll go to the special hell!" Much laughter ensued, but as soon as the first instant of the movie started, you could almost hear this huge intake of breath being taken... and then absolute silence... until we ran out of air. I was a bit too focused to notice any comments around me, but I remember hearing "...nothing between my nethers..." as we left the cinema!

Well, okay, the Browncoat screenings were the best. At my first one, shouted "I HATE YOU JOSS WHEDON!" when I thought we would lose Simon, too, and at my 2nd, well...when Kaylee says "Tell that to Inara.", my friend said
"Diss!" I said...
"Burn!" and then the WHOLE audience goes...
"OOOOOoooohhhh!" It was priceless. Then when Wash had to do the slide landing, the man in front of me yelled "SHIT!" It was an overall great experience with that many fans.

My 2nd viewing of the first weekend (4th viewing overall) brought one random thing, aside from the gasps and laughs and clapping from Friday. I saw it on Sunday, with a crowd that I feel was mostly non-Browncoats. But when the Operative walks into the Companion House and Mal looks up, amid COMPLETE silence, I hear one man in a far corner of the theater say "UH OH!" My friend and I broke down into giggles right there.

I can't stand crowded theaters, so I went to a showing I figured would be sparsely attended... which it was. No specific comments overhead from this small grouping that I can relate, but I'd say River's "I swallowed a bug" line definitely got the biggest laughs.

Went again tonight, 4th viewing. Larger group than any previous show I went to, though not capacity.

Oddly, this group was less responsive than some of the smaller crowds. Still heard several good laughs (Kaylee's "nethers" lament, Jayne's follow-on to that, and River's "bug" are surefire).

A girl behind me screamed aloud when the Reaver pops out from behind River in her dream sequence.

One thing happened this time that I hadn't noticed before, though. When Wash began his third and last "I am a leaf...", there was a pretty big laugh -- which turned into a huge gasp a moment later.

I think that's exactly what Joss intended in this scene: to change a moment of tension-relief laughter into instant shock. For that, the timing was perfect. When I heard the laughter start, I was thinking, "oh, you people are about to get smacked"... and they did.

Manipulative, yes. But so, so powerful.
