Today I received my pre-ordered Serenity Visual Companion guide from Amazon. I casually flipped through the pages only to quickly realize that the book contains stills from the movie as well as THE ENTIRE SCRIPT!!!! I immediately closed the book, and panting with panic, wiped my mind clean of every glimpse I had, tantilizing though it was. Now, I am forced to either tie myself to my chair until the 30th, put the book into my safe-deposit box, or bury it in the backyard until the temptation passes.

This is a warning to anyone else who has purchased the book in advance. Unless you want the most major spoilers of them all, DO NOT OPEN!

However, once I have seen the BDM, I expect to glean many hours of unbridled pleasure from reliving each and every moment of the movie, at least until it comes out on DVD!

I am not sure how long I can resist the "Siren's Song" but, with all of your help, I will try! Please send words of encouragement my way, as I am weak....

Dang! I thought the "visual companion" book would be something different. With Inara.

I'll be in my bunk....

"Damn it Jim, I'm a Browncoat, not a psychotherapist!!"

Ok, I've seen a pre-screening, and let me say calmly yet succinctly that you must buy a strongbox, gently place the book inside, close it, and then WELD THE SUCKER SHUT!!!

You DO NOT want to be spoiled for this movie, friend. No no no!!

MAL "You only gotta scare him."
JAYNE "Pain is scary..."

Aaaaaaah, I feel your soothing words of comfort as I chant my mantra - "You've waited this long, wait a little longer." In addition, I gave the book to my most trusted neighbor and told her in no uncertain terms, no matter how much I pound on her door in the middle of the night and scream that I have changed my mind and I MUST HAVE MY SERENITY, she is not allowed to give it to me, and has to walk me through my 12-step program. I should be alright in 29 days or so.

Now, if only I can find some local "Bawlmer" Maryland Browncoats, I would be in Nirvana, or in my bunk, or both!

You are stronger than temptation! Remember that you are a Browncoat. We do the impossible and that makes us mighty!

And if the safety deposit box doesn't seem enough, give the key to someone you trust, and make them promise NOT to give it back until Oct. 1st. And if they're a browncoat ('cause who else could you trust, hmm?) DON'T tell them what's in the box!!!

Or what bank the box is in.

Come to think of it, maybe you should take it to a bank in another town...

Better yet, take each page, rip it out, and post them places as advertisements. Then wait till you see the movie, and buy ANOTHER copy! Can't sink enough money into the Browncoat cause :)

Meanwhile, my copy just shipped today...can't wait...

It cost $13.57 from Amazon.com, a lot cheaper than therapy for my obsession!

You think you had troubles? For my birthday, my wife got me the Visual Companion, the Firefly RPG, and the novelization of the film -- in early September!

And yeah, now that I've seen the movie, they are wicked cool.

I really can kill you with my brain.

FYI: SoulOfSerenity, Jazaf, RobNotRick, Gonzai, and Xenocide are all Baltimore-ians. Also, myself, Hardware and Tethys are from nearby Delaware.

Here is a 12 step plan that I wrote many moons ago, hope it helps!

Firefly: a 12 step program for withdrawal

step 1: Admitted you were powerless over decisions made by Fox executives.

step 2: Came to believe that Joss could restore our faith in mass media. Or at least get a movie out to us. AND have a reeaalllly long gag reel on the Serenity DVD when it comes out.

step 3: Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of Joss as we understood him.

step 4: Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of the tv listings.

step 5: Admitted to God, ourselves and everyone on FFF.net the exact nature of Fox's wrongs.

step 6: Were entirely ready to have Joss remove the defects (if any) of the movie during editing and post production.

step 7: Humbly asked Joss to let Mal be nekkid at least once in the BDM.

step 8: Made a list of all persons who have not seen Firefly and became willing to tie them up if need be to..."introduce" them to the show.

step 9: Made direct converts of such people whenever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others. And maybe even then, if necessary.

step 10: Continued to do guerilla marketing techniques in Best Buy, Borders Books, Circuit City and assorted video rental outlets, and when the DVD was hidden away, promptly displayed it at eye level.

step 11: Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our freakish knowledge of every iota of each episode so as to win the Firefly trivia contests at each shindig.

step 12: Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry The Message (and all the other episodes) to others, and to practice these principles in all our affairs. While simultaneously attempting to actually live a life, work and pay bills when possible.

Ohhhhhhhmmmmmm, Ohhhhhmmmmmmm, now I feel so much more relaxed and empowered. I will be 12-stepping for the next several months. Thanks for pointing me to the locals!

On another note, have we started a thread counting the number of times we have all PERSONALLY seen the BDM? I am at 6 times, with three on opening day. Anyone else beat that?

Unfortunately for me I read the book up to the script portion. Then later proceeded to read the end of it.

I had only disd it to confirm an lj spoiler i looked up months ago.

I'm very bad when it comes to temptation.
