Really I'm tired of so many talking about and panicing that Serenity isn't doing good enough in theatres for us to get another movie and/or season of Firefly.

Well for one thing most the money is gonna come from DVD sales wich should be really good. Also movie hasn't even come out in other countries so with its premier in other countries should rack up some good money.

As for this 2nd weekend for Serenity in the states, I highly predict it will do just fine. Maybe even better than the first weekend. I mean the first weekend was probably mostly people who were a fan of Firefly back in 2002 or got hooked on Firefly in the weeks its been on on Scifi. Through the weekdays that's when people usually have to work and kids gotta go to school and them being school nights. And now the movie has been out for a week, more people now know that the movie is out. Surely a lot of people interested in the movie didn't know about when it would first be in theatres. Also in a weeks time there has been word of mouth, and the reviews just excellent. Plus it's a scifi action film with a girl who appears to kick ass in the trailer wich attracts a ton of people of all ages. Oh and can't forget all the Browncoats going to see the movie again and again this weekend...

Bottom line I don't see why any one is worried? Every thing looks fine to me. If the movie does really bad this weekend, bad in its premier in the other countries, and bad in like the first week of DVD sales, then I'll be worried.

Also wanna talk about Wash. As for his death, sure it is sad to see him go. Perhaps wasn't needed. Perhaps didn't much of a point besides increasing the tension some for the final face off against the Reavers. Does his death need a point to it though? NO! His death was a good death. Very well written by Joss and I praise him. If it was any of the characters that died in that kind of fashion, even Mal, I'd still praise Joss for such great writing. Now if Wash's death was some cheap death that wasn't so shocking and dramatic and and raised the tension through the roof, perhaps like Book's death, then that would be a bad death. Instead his death made the movie better. I hate to see him go, but I'm glad he died only because it simply made the movie better. Without his death, Serenity wouldn't of been better. Wouldn't of been so on the edge of your seat tense for the Reaver face off.

Any one wants to talk about a pointless dumb death, then talk about Book. Many of you say it was his death that motivated Mal to go to Miranda, but I don't think so. He would of gone any ways. That's just Mal's way as Book would say. Although Book's death and every one else there gave Mal the idea of how to get passed the Reavers.

Anyways enough about this crap of how the movie is doing. Really we just got to wait and see. Good chance it will all turn out fine one way or another. Also enough about this complaining about Wash's death. If you can't appreciate excellent writing, even if is your fav, then that's just sad.

I totally agree with you about Wash's death and Book's. And i love your optimism, yet i remain skeptical.....so the only thing we can do is our part to get others to see the movie, and wait.....

Well I think I've done my part. I went and saw the movie twice and managed to get 3 others to see it. That don't sound like much, but really I had to basically drag them there. And I've told my friends and others that it's great and should go see it. I maybe even go see it a third time. Not sure though.

I've also recently bought the Firefly DVD Set. I think that will help some as well. And I plan to buy the comics and Serenity action figures. Those will help out right?

I'd accidently read that someone died(someone mentioned the gravestones at the end of Serenity), so I was prepared for Book's death. Then they blindsided you with Wash. That left me completely rivited, I had NO idea who would live or how. If he could kill off not one, but two characters in the movie, anything seemed possible. Though I was fairly sure at least some of them had to survive :)

Wash was always my fav character throughout the series but to be honest his death was quite simply.... awesome. It made the last scenes mean so much more by bringing in the all bets are off feel. People gasped when Wash was impaled and even though I'm a big manly man I can admit I was close to tears, but I held them back. I just loved that character so much. The people gasped again when Simon was shot. Wash's death just made it seem as if anyone could die and it was great. I'll sorely miss Wash if we get a sequel but he went down well, without any cheesy dialogue. Alan Tudyk himself has actually said he loved it and had previously given Joss the idea of killing Wash in season two if the series continued because he felt it would hit the right cord, and it did. Book's death I felt was a bit predictable though unfortunately

I agree that Wash's death was awesome and brought a lot to the movie. I've heard Browncoats say that not all the characters had enough screen time, and non-browncoats say they didn't warm to all the characters. So with a crew of 7 maybe the deaths will help Serenity 2. And Wash's last line, must be one of the best in movie history:

"I'm a leaf on the wind, watch me soar"

That line will forever hit me where it hurts.

Actually, you can stand outside the theatre and try to influence people who came to the theatre but haven't decided which movie to watch yet... You simply cannot believe how much people just come out for "movie night" - in fact lots of moms-n-dads do that, they have 4 hours to come out and do "something" without their kids once in a great while, they stop off at the diner, then they inevitably end up at the theatre just to do "something"....

ripe for the picking, I say.

Amen. On all points.

I'm going all out this weekend. I've been trying to convince some people to go, but no dice. I did bring one new browncoat into the mix, though, who loved Serenity and is anxious for the DVD's (which i'm thinking will make a good Christmas gift). I'm hitting shows today and tomorrow, will buy as many tickets as funds will allow each time. Maybe if i'm lucky i can finally rope someone into coming along.
