As everyone knows, this weekend's box office returns for Serenity are crucial. We turned up the heat before, but now it's time to get out the flame thrower. Shiny sequels depend on good audience numbers.

Although new movies are being released this weekend, the movies that have the audience that are more likely for Serenity are the movies we were battlin' last weekend. Namely, Flightplan, Corpse Bride and A History of Violence. So as a marketing counter to these films, I've created a brand new Mal poster which conveys the rebellious and upstart nature of Serenity, and a new River poster which conveys Serenity from her perspective:

Remember, the posters really JUMP OUT when they are copied onto color paper.

These colors are just examples. Any bright, good contrasting color will work fine. If you can, try those cool neon color paper... they really rock!

So if you can get your mitts on some, use it! If not, well don't let that stop you. The posters still work great in good ol' black and white.

I've also set up a combo mini poster sheet for letter size paper that works great for portable handouts. Catch those folks at the theatre who are trying to decide what to see. Or catch those folks who were thinkin' about Serenity, but were not making a point of seeing this weekend. Let them know they need to see Serenity THIS weekend.

Guerilla marketing can be VERY effective, and it feels GREAT to directly promote Serenity... it's the Browncoat way. So how 'bout a Browncoat Blitz? It's fun, and it ain't that hard...

Remember that cool Blue Sun entry "Guerilla Marketing 101" from zipply? Great pic of the posters in action, and all it takes is Kinko's and spray glue!

To quote zipply:
Quote:

• Kinko's 11x17 color copies: 20¢ each. • One can Duro© All-Purpose Spray Adhesive: $1.98. • The thrill of guerilla marketing: Priceless. Oh yeah. I went there.

Here's the direct link to zipply's post in the Blue Sun Room:

The picture posted was FANTASTIC, but a pretty high res photo. Here's a more manageable pic:

(Okay, usually I'd ask ahead of time for permission to post someone else's stuff. But time is short, and I figured since it was already posted on this site, it's probably OK. Plus, zipply seems very cool.)

I have one more thing I'm working on, but wanted to get these going. PLEASE USE THESE POSTERS... THIS WEEKEND!

Talkin' ain't doin', and we're still fightin'...

Yer Art Companion,

11th Hour

Joss posted this on the OB

Post subject: Worst. Movie. Ever.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

was probably "Summer Holiday" with Mickey Rooney. Can you believe that kid was the biggest star in the world? Funny world.

Meanwhile, I'm just rounding out the weekend with a little praise for my dear peeps. Considering everything we've had to overcome, this is an extraordinary achievment. And you guys have been in the front lines. I lurk, I know all. So thanks. Some of you might know that this flick means more than a little to me.

Yes, the second weekend will tell all, as we've always known. I'm not here to push you guys -- you push yourselves way harder than I could anyway. I'm just trying to figure out how to get the message out to the guys that aren't you, that don't know any of you, and that don't run into someone who saw the film. I'll be hounding the extremely patient Uni execs on that very subject. Like the lady said, "People have to know".

It's not that there HAS to be a sequel. It's just that I've got so many IDEAS...

You gotta know when he sends a message about not pushin' us, he's kinda hopin' it might push us.

This is a critical time and EVERYTHING and we gotta push to take that next hill. Let's do all we can to promote Serenity and get more folks into those movie seats.

11th Hour

Keep this thread bumped folks!

And if'n ya can, bump it with photos of the guerilla marketing you did!

Just added a new guerilla marketing flyer to the collection.

This one is a little different. Not so much a provocative approach as just flat out, "Here's how awesome Serenity is... Even a lot of hard-to-please critics are singing Serenity's praises. NOW will you buy a ticket and see what you've been missing?!"

Of course that whole rant thing is implied. Actually the message is more or less implicit by showing a whole buncha shiny reviews for Serenity...

This flyer can be left as a single page, or cut the copies in half and get TWICE as many flyers.

Reviews can be very compelling to people. So let's put 'em to good use and get folks' attention. After seeing such shiny praise for Serenity, there'll be lots of folks willin' to pony up their ticket money to find out what all the fuss is about.

Then they'll find out what all the fuss is about.

If it weren't for the counter on my webpage increasing with respectful visitorage each day, I'd think the new posters were hangin' out in Web Limbo Land...

I say, if you have to be the main one bumpin' yer own thread... then it wasn't worth the work...
