Serenity did o.k. but not spectacular. It is still on the fence. There is no need to fret and look at box office numbers. Let's take action! So here is what we do...

Everyone who is a fan go see Serenity again this weekend. That is Fri, Sat, or Sun Oct 14 through Oct 16 and try to take at least one person with you and offer to pay if you can. Go to the matinee version whatever you can do!

I, harshcritic, hereby pledge to go see Serenity this weekend and will invite my bro to join me. There, that is at least $12 towards the cause.

Who else will take the pledge?

P.S. If someone invites you to go see another movie, persuade them not to. If you plan to see another, change your plans. See Serenity instead. Tell other fans to do likewise. Believe me this movie needs all the help it can get.

I plan to go for my second viewing sometime between now and by the end of the weekend. Hell, I might get impulsive and even go this afternoon .

I'm in the process of converting a friend and would like to go with him to see it. But I'm in a bit of a bind. I'm of the opinion that you should see the series before you see the movie. That was my expereince, and I can say that I would not have enjoyed the movie half as much if I didn't watch the show before hand.

I'm still trying to explain to him just what Firefly is, and why he should check it out. I just got my dvd box set yesterday and I'm planning to lend it to him. But unless he watches them all in a few days he might not match my experience. I watched them all for the first time in 2 days and I couldn't believe I had when it was over. I don't typically do things like that. But who knows, he may fall for it just like I did.

I think someone else posted in another thread about situations like these. The thing is, we need butts in the theatere NOW, not 3 weeks from now. A gentile intro to the movie may not be possible at this time if you wanted someone else to experience the show before the movie.

I also pledge to go see the film again this weekend (and today, too, time permitting). If even just a sizable fraction of the browncoats does this, we might be able to beat expectations just like we did last week. So let’s try it again! And if you can’t afford to go, be sure to keep spreading the word and posting guerrilla marketing if you can. Every little bit helps.

If he/she doesn’t want to go into theaters cold, just show him/her “Serenity Parts I & II” or even “The Train Job” if time is short. One epi should give him/her a good idea of who’s who and what’s what. They can pick up the rest in the film. And be sure to stress they probably don’t even need to see a single episode to enjoy the film.

I have only seen one episode, Trash, last Friday on the sci-fi network. I want to buy the dvd set, but my money is a little tight right now. I'll probably have to go and rent it instead.

I saw the movie last night and I loved it! I am an instant fan. Last week I knew relatively nothing about the series or the movie.

I think that people can see the movie and still love it, because it was so well written. And that is what is needed right now. So, I say go see it. Don't worry about the series right this minute.

I second StakeTheLurk's recommendation. I think the movie does a great job of compressing the back story, but it's still so (delightfully) fast, newbies are probably overwhelmed. The TV pilot gives them a slower, more relaxed intro to all the characters, and the 'verse.

After they've seen the movie (presumably on a weekend), they'll want to see the rest of the series (crammed into the following weekdays), so they'll be perfectly primed to see the movie again, the following weekend!

Remember Mal's advice:

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Why we still talking about what's already been decided?

I'll be there tomorrow night & Saturday with whoever I can drag along.

UNCHARTEDOUTLAW

I, the Uncharted Outlaw, do hereby pledge to take my wife and our two friends who got us turned onto Firefly in the first place to the earliest showing possible on Sunday. Only because one of our friends has to work that day.

EARLY

I've seen it twice and i'm not seeing it again. Sorry, but twice in two weeks is enough for me until it comes out on DVD. Honestly even if it does make us enough money for a sequel, I don't think fans should be expected to go 6, 7 times. If you want to great, but in my opinion, the studio should try to get multiple people not the same ones over and over. I've told everyone I know that it was a great movie, thats all I can do.

I reguraly visit this website called www.boxofficeprophets.com. They analyze box office profits on a weekly basis and what they had to say was not good.
