Our ever reliable industry sources are telling us that Universal will soon announce the DVD release of Joss Whedon's Serenity for 12/20. Early word indicates that the disc may include Whedon audio commentary, along with at least 4 behind-the-scenes featurettes (Future History, We'll Have a Fruity Oaty Good Time, Re-Lighting the Firefly and What's in a Firefly), a video introduction to the film by Whedon and 6 minutes worth of outtakes. Some of the details on the extras comes from the BBFC website (click the link and hit enter). We'll post more as it comes in.

I still really want a commentary with Joss AND the 9 BDHs. I've heard the commentary will be from Joss, but gorramit, I want everyone included. Hopefully we can get this in the special edition DVD, if there is one.

Mal: Define interesting.
Wash: Oh god, oh god, we're all gonna die?

Hard to tell exactly what most of those featurettes will be, based on just the titles. I was kinda hoping for a 25-30 minute one with lots and lots of interviews, like what the Firefly DVDs have, but alas... Woulda been nice to have that half-hour show Adam Baldwin hosted on Sci-Fi, too, but at least I have it on tape. And I'm a little surprised not to see the R. Tam Sessions on there--I thought those were a lock for inclusion.

I love the release date. I wonder how many friends and family members of browncoats will be unwrapping their own copies five days later?

PSYCHICRIVER

Gah, so we don't see the bit at the end where Kaylees working on the engine, then looks round the side and sees Simon working bear chested and she smirks and goes upto him and wraps her arms around him?

The shot of her poking her head round the engine, with her face all grubby, was in the UK trailer, btw.

I just wanted to say that that's not very fair to Peter Jackson and New Line. They did more than enough to inform the consumer; anyone who paid attention knew months before the theatrical cut of The Fellowship of the Ring came out on DVD that there were going to be extended editions.

The companies you should take umbrage with are the ones who don't bother to tell you until well after the fact.

But if it is a gift from an uneducated friend (like mine was) then what...... it was tricky and everyone knows that, even with the info we all know how marketing works
