Firefly is now up to #3! Anybody have any idea what they base those rankings on? My best guess is the number of views of the show's listing.

Wow, cool. I can't believe it beat Desperate Housewives and CSI . How'd that happen? I can't figure out how the rankings work. Well, good news for Serenity. Sure it's not a big box office favorite at the moment. But the rising popularity of Firefly is showing that it is definitely getting attention. And that's enough to make me happy .

It's important that we record all of this data to use for an argument later.

I see, btw it's on the left hand margin on that page with the link for those who missed it, but I see that it's still 3.

I have been trying to figure IMDb ratings out for a while. I think they wait several things. They are owned by amazon, so Amazon sales rank of DVD collections probably figures into it. Amazon reviews, requests and page views, IMDb reviews, requests and page views. Search tallies. They may even do google page rank and reference counts like I posted a few days ago. (sorry been out of commission for a couple days.)

Anyway, all good news.

I think the trick is that Joss shows seem to have a smaller audience than other shows, but that audience on average thinks much higher of the quality of the show. Like the general pattern looks something like this

Typical Joss show has 2-4 million fans. The average fan rates whatever Joss does about a 9.

Typical non-Joss show might have 8-12 million views who rate their show a 7.

Something like that. Anyway, clearly there's a factor of quality and stickiness which isn't being taken into account by neisel ratings.

Another thing that might interest TV studios is the avg. income of firefly fan households. I have no idea what this might be or how it might relate to other shows, but if it's higher it's a statistic worth having, if it's lower, we'll just keep a lid on that. For advertisers.

I'm going to watch them all. That oughtta distract 'em.

It'd be nice if this info swayed Joss et. all in some way:

Serenity: does "ok" in the theaters, enough to earn Joss a pat on the back but not enough to justify a sequel.

However!

Firefly: #3 all-time best TV show, #2 all-time best DVD seller on Amazon.

The fans have spoken. Joss gets His Wonder Woman film out of the way, then turns his attention back to Firefly Season 2. All's well in the verse once again & we live happily ever after...

... then i wake up. Damn.

It's number 2 at tv.com:

http://www.tv.com/shows/topshows.html

Just beaten by Prison Break! As a new show that will probably start dropping soon, then we'll be #1.

Firefly is #1 in sci-fi:

http://www.tv.com/science-fiction/genre/10

Buffy is #23 overall and #4 in sci-fi

Angel is #58 overall and #3 in action-adventure (it's not in sci-fi for some reason, but if it was it'd be about #6).

You were correct, it's NUMBER 1 NOW (sorry for caps) - 17th October!

Hope it stays number 1 at UK box office, too, it had a near perfect review from Jonathan Ross the BBC's main film critic (he has a weekly show called Film 2005)

He left the name, at which the world grew pale.

It's number #2 again now.

Lost is in 1st. I'm watching Lost on Channel 4 at the moment, and although I am enjoying it, I don't think it's anyhwhere near the league of Firefly (Or Angel or s1-5 Buffy). In the most recent episode I watched Charlie almost died but came back to life at the last second. He should have died. If Joss was making this show he would have died. There's still plenty of episodes left to impress me, but so far I don't see it as special.

Btw, how do I rank shows on the IMDB? There's no rate button as with movies.

Frist of all, how come season 6 of Buffy never gets any love? It's far and away my favorite season.

Secondly, while Joss does, occasionally, kill off his characters, FAR more often, they almost die but come back to life. I think that's pretty standard for dramatic shows...

I actually like season 6 too, I just don't think it has the same impact as the previous 5.

A lot died in the Whedonverse...Jenny,Joyce,Tara,Anya,Doyle,Darla,Cordelia,Fred ,Lindsey,Wes...etc

I realise that I'm still quite early in Lost, but they'd better kill of a main character pretty soon

And to keep the trend for this thread, it's currently at the #5 spot.
