Not exactly a comeback, but Serenity pulled in about $200K yesterday, good enough for 10th, above Corpse Bride.

And let's give a shout out to Russia, who this weekend chose Serenity over The Dukes of Hazard, both of which premiered the same day.

If it takes putting up a screen on Antartica and showing to penguins to get the numbers up...well...I will go get my coat..

More life left yet, I just got back from a 4:40pm showing here in Portland Oregon. small theater but there must have been more than a dozen people there. Didn't get a good count, didn't want to end up in that special hell. Checked Fandango and they still have listings for it this coming Saturday so it looks to make it another week at least. Shiny

TRACY

I already have people set to go check it out when it opens in Argentina, in roughly a month.

Today, I finally heard from my friends who moved back to France. I just finished emailing them - made a not-2-proud-2-beg plea for them to go see "Serenity" as it opened over there today. They usually pay attention to my pleas and/or suggestions, so I'll be waiting to hear from them soon.

Looks like another trip to the movies for me this weekend - and I'm expecting a loaner set of "Firefly" from Amazon any day now (my Brazilian neighbor went bonkers over the story after I took him and his wife to "Serenity". He now wants to see how it all came to be.)

"Can I make a suggestion that doesn't involve violence? Or is this the wrong crowd for that?" (Wash)

One thing I think everyone is forgetting is what happens when Serenity hits video and DVD...it might do what Firefly did, after the show was cancelled they made the DVD, and the DVD made millions.

Yay, first post

If you look at the figures on the welcome page, 'Serenity' must have taken at least $30 Million already just in the US. I know it's been doing well over here in the UK and you can take the British Gross and pretty much double it to get dollars.

How much did they make it for again?

Currently at No. 6 in the UK behind Pride and Prejudice (chickflick), Kinky Boots (a social commentary) and Wallace & Gromit (familyflick)- all UK-centric films so no surprises there. The BBC review was quite good (critic gave it 4 stars and viewers 5).

Don't forget Serenity has been given a 15 rating in the UK which seemed a little harsh at first (it would make it inaccessible to many families for example) but in light of all the 'I'm turning against the film because my 11(or 42?) -year old cried' threads, perhaps this was just as well...

Overall still doing well and the fact that its primarily being shown in a single screen in many multiplex's has meant it continues to be shown.

The good news is that Serenity held tenth place for two days in a row (and had the second best Tuesday-Wednesday change of the top 10). The not so good news is that we're about to lose almost half our theaters ( http://www.boxofficemojo.com/counts/chart/?yr=2005&wk=42&p=.htm ) so today might be the last time many people can see Serenity.

For comparison... Oliver Twist looks like it's gone from theaters. Into the Blue took another big hit in theaters and is finally playing in less locations than Serenity. Greatest Game Ever Played lost about a hundred theaters less than Serenity. And History of Violence appears to have reached its peak and should start shedding theaters next weekend.

For movies that just finished up their second week... Gospel had the best hold over. In Her Shoes lost about the same percentage of theaters as Serenity did last week. Two for the Money pulled an Into the Blue. And Waiting lost more than third locations.

The quick summary is that there are fifteen movies playing in more theaters than Serenity this weekend (Wallace and Grommit isn't on the BOM list yet). So anything better than 15th is a positive .

Yes, its doing well in Ireland too. The benfit of being an Entertainment Officer for my universities Fantasy and Science Fiction Societies are innumerable.
I've been plugging the series and the movie for months at our weekly meetings.
We held a Shindig for the BDM, and I organised an outing comprising .... 30 people. We comprised half of the (full)theatre. That was crazy. Us Irish are not known for our punctuality, so I was paranoid that as organiser-person, I'd have to wait outside for latecomers. Fortunately, the long-term members knew the perils of making me miss a second of the BDM, and whipped everyone into shape. Afterwards we went back to our place and dined on strawberries and other fresh fruit.
[To make it worse, I was dressed as River but the only 'stompy boots' I had were my boyfriends, about 3 sizes too big and far too heavy for me. It wasn't too bad, but after the movie my legs were asleep and I found it hard to lift my legs.]

"Oh, and I can kill you with my brain."

The Numbers.com is no longer showing Serenity's Box Office ranking. Does this mean it has finished it's North American run?
