I just got a call that I will be filling out a Nielsen diary the week of November 6th. I only get the normal network channels (ABC, NBC, FOX, UPN, WB etc.) and not extended cable channels like Sci-Fi.

Any suggestions on what I should be watching to help promote quality TV (if there is such a thing)?

I watch mostly PBS right now. Sigh, I wish Firefly were on.

Wow I think is great of you to ask, but if any group of people would understand trying to promote a show well...........

since the only show I watch that is really new is Surface that would be my vote..........but ER is not doing so great so if you could help them I'd be happy! Thanks

please please watch Veronica Mars on Wednesday night on UPN...
it is an amazing show (in spite of being on against Lost)
Joss Whedon is a HUGE fan of it:

As much as I love LOST, I'll say watch VM as well. Hell, even the Exec Producer at LOST said that people should watch VM. Now THAT'S an endorsement.

Also, check out My Name is Earl and The Office. They're two of the best comedies on television (Arrested Development is good too). No laugh tracks, great writing -- even if you didn't have a Nielson survey, you should watch them.

Lost on Wednesdays (ABC) is very good and the show that follows it (Invasion) isn't too bad.

You might enjoy Supernatural Tuesday night on the WB or Night Stalker on Thursday night on ABC.

WEll I not watch a whole lot of television at all, but would recommend:

Arrested Development -- very funny show but unless you've seen the past two seasons you might be lost. However they are both out on DVD now, rent and then enjoy.

NUMB3RS -- Mr Universe, David Krumholtz is one of the stars, and it's an intellegent show. Not your usual bloody CSI kinda show, more thinking and great characters.

Yeah, that's it for me, like I said I don't watch too much TV these days.

I second (third? fourth?) Veronica Mars! That might actually be the week Joss Whedon appears on VM, which is probably going to be hilarious.

Oh, yes, please watch Veronica Mars on UPN. It’s up against Lost (another quality show, but one with a lot of viewers), so it needs all the help it can get. It’s Joss’ favorite show on the air right now, and I have to agree with him--it is really good. Funny, dark, and moving, it respects the audience’s intelligence and is enjoyed by people of all ages. So of course it’s perpetually on the bubble of cancellation. Sounds familiar.

Yes, I think the week of November 6 actually is the week in which Whedon has a guest appearance on the show. And nobody can miss that! It will be hilarious, because it’s Joss, but the VM folks will also make it powerful and interesting. Plus, Joss!

So, in summary: Veronica Mars, Veronica Mars, Veronica Mars! It’s a scrumptralescent show with a dash of Josstastic goodness.
