Jayne, Kaylee, Book, Inara, Wash, Simon, and Zoe all lost weight since Objects In Space...
Only Mal and River seem to be eating enough!

Just an observation.

Chrisisall, thinkin' our BDH's need to dock at a McDonald's

Only cause Summer couldn't lose any more weight (seriously! You seen her in person?! TINY!)

And Mal, well, he's the greedy boss who steals everyone else's food rations. That's my explanation for it.

Yeah well, maybe it's healthy, it gives them all a rapid metabolism, so they burn more fat.

Or it could be that now simon and river are aboard they get a hell of a lot more exercise

The high protein diet is shutting their kidneys down.

Me myself, I could have lived out my whole life not hearing Jewel Staite *complain* about having to keep on 10 extra pounds.

Well, we learned in the comics (and at the start of Serenity) that times have been hard for the BDHs since OiS. Guess everybody had to cut down on rations a bit.

Except for that little stash that Mal keeps tucked away in the sink drawer in his cabin. Which River knows about, naturally.

Ain't about you, Jayne. It's about what they need.

That actually WOULD make sense. Times got tougher since OIS...

Actually, in his interview on Edmonton radio, Nathan said he lost 20 pounds over 4 weeks through diet and exercise in order to begin shooting Serenity. He said Universal didn't give him a personal trainer or anything.

This brings up a question I've had... When Simon talked about eating "molded protein", is he refering to protein that's got mold growing on it or protein molded into particular shapes (like the bars Patience buys)?

I always presumed it was mouldy, but now you mention it, it does make sense if it is moulded, as in shaped. We know the foodstuffs can take many forms- the same substance can be a chocolate cake or a roast potato. What if they use protein re-sequencers to turn boxes of amino acids, sugars, salts and vitamins into whatever food they need...

Can you just picture a protein resequencer in that galley?

well my pet theory is that the 'protein' that the crew eats so much of is soy. it can be made into just about anything from milk to meat and is really low in fat.

plus in the shooting script it's 'molded'
