BEEBLICON

hi, I have watched serenity 4 times now, and each time after the first i forced various different friends of mine to come with me and watch it, all of whom loved it, its out of the theatres here, and all i see is its doing bad

After watching it and loving it, i of course, went and bought the firefly box, and loved that even more. and it makes me sad to think there aint gonna be a sequal, so i wanna know what i can do?

i've heard rumors of a dvd release in december, if so i plan on buying everyone i know a serenity dvd, heh, as many as i can afford, now is it better to buy em in stores, or factory direct so more of the profit goes right to whom it needs to go?

i also plan on buying a few friends the firefly series for x-mas, again factory direct best?

i just wanna know what i can do to help, hah, i wish joss took donations :P

DONCOAT

I can't say I'm an expert on the financial arrangements for DVD movies, but I'd guess that the share for Universal is the same no matter where you buy it (unless it's in a cutout bin, which I doubt will ever happen to the BDM).

So find your best deal and stock up.

Ain't about you, Jayne. It's about what they need.

Hi,

Have you checked http://www.fandango.com/ or other online ticket sellers. Try your city first, then nearby cities, then even farther away cities. I drove almost two hours to see Serenity Sunday. Do you have any of the 2nd run or cheaper theaters in your area? Keep an eye on them too--the movie may show up there. Are there any theaters that did not show Serenity yet? Maybe they will pick it up at some point and be the only one in a whole area that fans can see it at.

Serenity was going to be gone from even two hours away from me Friday 10/28/2005. So I thought what am I going to do?

I decided to buy a ticket Monday for Serenity on Fandango for that night even though I could not attend. I posted about this under another thread.

That was a donation.

But I got a reward because the theater I picked is only 1 hour or so away and now instead of gone Friday that theater is going to be showing it 4 times a day this weekend. I do not know if my donation had anything to do with it. But I get to see Serenity two more times.

I tried the same with another theater Tuesday night and it is still gone Friday at that theater.

I did not buy any on-line tickets today...put in three hours of overtime and got home too late...but now I will have more cashy money coming in.

Dvds for Christmas stockings.

I believe the visual companion and the comics are tied in to the movie profits, too. Comics are a matter of taste but I haven't heard anything but very positive comments about the Visual Companion.

Well, sounds like you’ve done a lot already! To paraphrase Joss, “You’ve gone above and beyond above and beyond. The people who are above and beyond are looking at you and going "Man, doesn't beeblicon ever quit?”

That said, if you want to do more, here are a few ideas. If there are a few people you’ve haven’t taken to see Serenity, get them hooked on “Firefly” and once they are, tell them about the big screen continuation that’s coming out on DVD December 20. Likewise, you might want to post guerrilla marketing, first for “Firefly”--because the more people who watch it, the more who will buy the film when it comes out--and later, in December, post ads for the Big Damn Movie. You can find some guerrilla marketing in the archives of the Blue Sun Room on Fireflyfans.net and also here, at 11th Hour’s site: http://the11thhour.home.att.net. Right now, though all her stuff seems geared towards the movie. If you can’t find anything of use, maybe make your own, if feasible. And also, help out the online viral marketing campaign by spreading the River Tam Sessions--video clips Joss and Summer put together to produce word of mouth for the film. That should hook some more people. You can find them at www.session416.com. That’s about all the ideas I can think of, hope they were useful.

And don’t despair. It’ll all come down to the DVDs, but we can still pull through. Check out this thread by Tired Old Reaver: http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=2&t=14225

EDITED TO ADD: Oh, and by the way, welcome to the site! It's always great to have new browncoats on board. Please do stick around and discuss the 'verse with us; we're happy to have you. Stay shiny!
