this site has enriched my life (seriously) i used to read and post and laugh and rub soup in my hair.(ahh wacky fun) now it's crumbled into bitterness and anger. now i come to this board and get a headache. can't we agree to disagree and just get along?

if for anything, do it for me, you're making me sad.

I've got a nice positive thread about everyone's fave movies because I was also tired of the sniping and arguing. It's much more entertaining and fun then people arguing about Wash. Feel free to jump in or start a new thread -- I'll join.

thanks! i'm so glad to hear from people who are trying to keep things fun, and i didn't mind the debate over his death at first, infact i expected it, but i think the subject has run it's course and needs to have a giant harpoon impaled through it.

i'm going to go check out your post about other scifi movies right now! seeya there!

I'm with you. Can't stand that everyone needs to have their own thread dedicated to the Wash's-death-debate. I wish there could just be one of those instead of the million we've got. I, too, have avoided the board because of those threads. Fortunately, they've died down a bit, and the board is getting back to normal.

It's not the board, dude. If you check the profiles on the posts for these recent negative threads, you'll find them being started by pretty new members. I think they're just a more articulate version of troll. (I already made a long thread about why I thing this in the "Browncoats to blame" thread).

Now, do you want to play a game? (Imagine computer voice from '80s movie "War Games")

Xander & Casual, there definitely are more of us here not interested in arguing one side or the other. Like the Favorite movie thread, there are a few others that are still fun.

This site is still a lot more civil than the threads at the other site.

It's my hope that it will die down and get back to normal. I for one agree to disagree.

It's easy to avoid the bickering threads, and there are so many others to visit. Just refuse to participate in (or even to view) the threads that get you down, and all will be well.

yeah, I agree
during the last election the endless political crap got really annoying,
so Haken created a Real World section and banished all the brangling to one area that the rest of us could avoid....

I'm starting to think we need a special section:
Bitching & Moaning Endlessly About the BDM
and put ALL of the *spoiler* threads into it,
so that we can on with other discussions.

Of course personally I wouldn't banish the box office discussions,
or other things I find interesting to that section...

And it should continue to die down,
people will either find something else to discuss or go away.

Don't loose faith. There was a recent dramatic event (i.e., movie) that shook everyone up, and everyone had strong and different reactions. Soon those high emotions will cool down. It already is a lot better than it was.

In the meantime, if you don't want to encounter a single nother thread about "Wash's death suxxors. No, you suck!", then hang out elsewhere than the general discussion board. You're guaranteed none of that in the buffyverse forum and so on.

But I think here it already is simmering down. There are fun threads to play in, and you can avoid the still-angsty threads. They'll go away.

Yeah, that's getting very old for me too, but it will calm down, is already. In the meantime we need more positive threads with interesting topics to offset the dead pilot blues that's being played so loudly from so many speakers. Bum Bum Ba Dum!

I'm missing some of the old voices as well. There are some very quiet, probably lurking old timers I'd like to hear from soon. Hint. Unless they all went to a tropical island where Serenity is playing at a drive-in, in which case I'm very envious and wish I had de-cloaked months ago so I might have been invited.

"The Random Elves of Chocolate Land" (apogees to Doug)

The elves of Pixietex were transported to the Land of Chocolate by way of a freak website accident when each of them simultaneously pushed "post my reply" on a reply containing the word "chocolate".

The speed of light was brought into play by this seemingly random act (photons being notoriously mischievous and slippery fellows), when the resulting combination of 1s and 0s dialed the unpublished cell phone number of the local deity. Always a fan of any joke with the punchline "chaos", it created The Land of Chocolate in the twinkling of its eye.

Yes...it does seem to be a problem of the sort at the moment.

I don't know why I do it...I hate them, but I just can't stop myself. When I see a thread thats bitcing about you-know-what...I just can't help going in there. Even though I know it'll piss me off.

Some of you may have seen, I was involved in a little spat in a thread yesterday.

I shouldnt have gotten involved...shouldn't have replied...shouldnt even have opened the thread. But I did.

Anyway, I have now made a promise to myself not to go near any bitching threads. I shall just let them fall off the page.

Well thats the plan anyway.

Heck, look at me....

I joined the board when 95% of the front page was WASH!!!!!!! (spinelsss crying, whining, and gurking) GAH!!!!

I managed to find the other 5%, because Firefly (and Serenity) are just that gorram good. Hell, I think I enjoyed the movie more than I did the series.

Point is, there's plenty of good feelings and shinyness around here to make up for the asshats.

(I think I've found more reason to post today than ever... not sure why that is.)

I think part of the problem too is the site organization. Unless I am greatly mistaken, it's almost impossible to find threads that haven't been posted on in a while... they just dissapear beyond the "Top 100." This is why we have something like 50 re-posts of the same thread saying the same things that some of us have already heard and discussed. People don't post in categories as much as they should, and those categories get lost in the "Top 10" on the main page. A search function would be cool too... do we have one?

That aside, I do agree with what is being said in this post... I have been getting frustrated about the same thing being bounced around. I'm finding little to talk about on the board that hasn't already been said. I still come though. I'm waiting for definitive news on the DVD and the sequel.

I confess... I'm a latecomer to this board but I beat the motherload of posters by a week or so. I heard the buzz about firefly and it's offshoot serenity for a good long while, then finally I went and watched the DVD. Watched it 2 days before it aired on SciFi chan.

After doing so, I finally understood what the buzz was all about. In fact, I was more freakishly devoted to it than I ever have been to Star Wars and Star Trek (and I'm olde school on both accounts).

Wish I'd got into it long before then but I'm a latecomer, no doubt about it. No way to change it. I also fit into the category of people who bitch and moan alot about the current state of affairs. I'd have always been that way from day 1 if time had been on my side. Sorry, lost my faith in SciFi a long time ago given the buttsludge coming out of the entertainment industry since forever.

However... I have a one-tracked focus... I want to see the show restored. Just absolutely gotta have more of it, no matter what. To hell with #2 of 3 possible sequels to the show ~ this ain't Star Wars... I wan't the friggin show back on the air, and I will campaign unrelentingly for that one purpose. Whedon needs to say screw hollywood and moviemaking, return to his true calling (Firefly eps).

To that singular purpose I remaind devoted.

Hey! I haven't gone trolling for the vicious troll thread PR, but I might have to go see it in all its spiteful glory now. I've been electrocuted a couple of times myself (sorry about the psychic thread CIT). They're hard to resist, but have been boring me to tears lately. Lots of we happy few newbies are sorely lacking in fansite skillz (me for instance), and there are a breathtaking # of "I hated" threads out there.

AURO: You can search by keyword as CIT suggests. Also, if you want to wander around in the records room and read old threads, use the toolbar at the top of the homepage and go to
Community/Threads/General (or category)/ then scroll to the bottom of the Top 100, and you'll find "Read Threads That Have Been Archived". That's the li'bary of all that is. There's some amazing stuff in there. When you have hours to waste that is.

Changing things by gettin' all bendy

I guess this is where I play the role of villain.

This is probably just another one of those threads that gets buried (or a "troll" HIJAXng a thredz... all your thredz r belonged to us", BUT...

gonna take u folks to task. Ya you loved firefly before most of us ever heard of it. however, many are being converted to your way of thinking, and your "I was here loving it before you and hence, I am superior" nonproductiveattitude ain't helping.

New recruits bring enthusiasm. Also, a fresh perspective. Frankly, many of us never heard of it cuz we closed off the science fiction genre. How many times can I see a remake of King Kong (rip-off of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's writing ~ please give us another Faye Raye for the masses)?

How many times can I watch a rehash of (or remake if you please) of hollywood fodder? Nothing new, nothing originial, only remakes of crap that's already been done.

I'm waiting for Episode 13, season 3 of Gilligan's Island Next Gen ~ where Gilligan singlehandedly kills off a whole boatload of technologically advanced Polynesian-infiltrating superadvanced space aliens who want to turn humanity into a slave-race/foodsource, rescues his ambiguously gay commander "the loveable bumbling obese 'Skipperrrr', u hammock hamhock u", and then had wild foreshadowed moments of potential nonsex with ginger (played by whomever hollywood decides will be the next big talent). Oh, of course there is "MaryAnne" the virginal purehearted countrygirl who has religion, who soon becomes the high priestess of the enemy, only to be saved by Gilligan (and tempted with gratuitous moments of televised nonsex).

Think I'm kidding? Watch, wait, and see.

XH,

Don't let it get you down. This is still a fun board, the best Firefly/Serenity board in my opinion. It's why I hang out here and barely post anywhere else.

Sure there are a ton of posts about Wash, Book, or How could Joss do that, but we should expect this. The BDM was the emotional roller coaster that Joss promised & this plethora of threads is a result of the movie. There is going to be some anxiety and grief to be expressed, and rather than post in other threads many are going to simply start all new ones. I have all but quit reading or posting in them simply because many are rehashing what has already been discussed many times.

We should encourage these new posters because they are fans just like us. They might be new & not have the mileage on them that some of us do, but we vets owe it to them & the fanbase as a whole to be civil and encourage any and all newcomers to post & discuss. These fans that are posting now will be the ones out there recruiting more fans to expand our little army & help insure some sort of future for Serenity.

I like to have fun too, so let's not take everything else too seriously.

Keep the faith lady, & keep flyin'!

Speaking as one of the newly de-cloaked, I've been really glad to "hear" some of the new voices here as well. The level of intelligence and humor on this site keeps me from spending much time anywhere else on the boards (and sometimes I manage to postpone other things as well).

I think once the dust settles and we all finish wandering through whatever disappointment and grief the movie brought us, the board will go back to being the happy shiny (and only occasionally troll stricken) place it has been in the past.

Seriously though, I hear ya Xander.

One of my pet peeves is how the same old questions appear in new posts. eg - Will Firefly come back to TV? Its a fair question but after 3 years or so I think i've seen this question written one way or the other a hundred times. There are many, many other overdone threads ressurrected in one form or another.

Still, It is testament to my devotion to Firefly that I still check this site at least every other day.
