METALSLUG

To all Firefly fans,

I live in Southern California and one of my favorite amusement parks is Universal Studios. I have season passes for me and my kids, and I remember on several of my trips to the park with the family that whenever we took the tour the guide kept mentioning Joss Whedon filming "Serenity" based on the TV show "Firefly". I thought to myself, now here is a man that must have had a lot of love for the show he created in order to put everything on the line to make this movie. After all it was from a show that was mysteriously canceled mid season. I remember seeing a couple of episodes when it was on the air, because I am a fan of Science Fiction and of course "Buffy", but I have to admit that I never really got hooked. Until I started seeing early previews on "Serenity", then I started to get more interested. This movie looked really good, so I took a chance and bought the box dvd set of "Firefly". Now I get it!
This was an amazing show, that was so well scripted, acted, and with some really incredible special effects. I feel a little sad now that I wasn't with all the fans from the beginning, but you guys now have a fan for life. The movie was so incredible too; it really did keep the spirit of the TV show alive. I know Joss Whedon is working on Wonder Woman now, but hopefully he wont leave Firefly and we will see something from him soon in regards to a sequel to Serenity or possibly sci-fi channel continuing where the move left off and picking up as a new show.

My open letter from a Shinny new fan

INSANITYLATER

My story is pretty darn similar. In fact, it's nearly identical. I never really caught or got the show when it was on the air. It bugs the crap outta me that I've fallen for a cancelled show. Well.. Fox saw the error of their ways with Family Guy (although the older episodes are better), but I would much rather see Firefly land on SciFi with new episodes.. Walking through the upright puddle of water is getting a bit long in the tooth. Firefly also has amazing dialogue that you won't even find in Acadamy Award winning movies. I think the only show on the air now even remotely close in "feel" to Firefly is BSG. I guess I like the idea of flawed heroes. I'm heading to Florida in two weeks.. gonna spend a day or two at Universal there away from the Mouse. I hope to here some Firefly / Serenity infos tossed about.

XEROGRAVITY

It's a shame Metalslug that you felt you needed to "take a chance" when you bought the DVD set. However... one good episode of an entirely amazing series can seem meaninless. I can pick any network serial show off of TV, watch a single episode, and conclude it's worth watching. When I dig a lil deeper the whole storyline reveals it to be shallow boring trash (the norm).

I personally didn't get into Firefly till well after it was cancelled. Now, I'm a fully-fledged cardcarrying member of the Firefly KoolAid drinkers. Woot. By the time it was cancelled, I had already been disgusted with what TV had to offer.

Even BSG sucks in my book (BattleStar Galactica)... and I loved the original BSG back in the day. It's just feels like a kind of desperate attempt at soapopera drama, mixed with some hoaky ancient-world religions (Zeus, Apollo, etc.). It worked the first time around, but now it's kinda cheeselike.

So what if Starbuck is a hawt chick? Can't make up for crappy scriptwriting.

No such thing as gravity. The "Earth-that-was" just sucks.
