Something in Serenity suddenly makes sense to me, from a martial perspective *spoilers* (do we still need to say it?)

At first thought, River being able to slay (Ha- River The Reaver Slayer) scores of Reavers seemed rather over the top, but consider: at Niska's she did the math, closed her eyes, and put down three in an instant. Mix the abilities to 'do the math', martial programming, and the reader's power to 'see' things coming, and you really would have a weapon that could kill efficiently. Maximum carnage with minimum effort. In a fighting sense, she's won the game by working out all the permutations on the way in.

One more question put to bed, nes pas?

also add to it that the Reavers are not going for the KILL,
they want to eat their victims alive...
so they are just trying to get in close, not kill from far away...
she would have been in big trouble if the Operative hadn't told the Alliance soliders to stand down.

I heard an interview (a recent recorded interview) w/Joss where he was asked who would win:
Buffy vs River...
I was going to give it to River because she could read what Buffy was going to do ahead of time,
but Joss gave it to Buffy because of super powers.

BTW I do think it is still polite to say *spoiler* for the Browncoats from other countries...
but certainly we are getting to the day when everyone here should be expected to have seen the BDM...
anyone know of the date we should set?

Personally I've appreciated how considerate everyone has been here at fff

If you havent' seen the film, please don't read my post! Heavy spoilage! Comments on the film and cast...

Select to view spoiler:

I've seen the film twice now, and to me, the saddest part of not getting a sequel is that in a way, with River and Malcolm at the helm, the store of Serenty/Firefly has just begun...

My friend who has just discovered the series but hasn't seen the film, was mystified by the desktop wallpaper (the best one by far, IMHO) that shows River yielding a sicle/sword thing and eveveryone else in the background.

It's funny how, at the time the series was cancelled, it was truly a case of, "River, we hardly knew ye" ...

In Serenity, we can clearly see what River's really about, and the film ends just as her real story begins.

Of course, like everyone else, losing Wash and Book is hard to deal with, but it was so great seeing the potential that River had all along finally "come to the fore..."

But I can hardly imagine the story without Wash and Book. So I've got mixed feelings, I guess, which is a good sign. Films that haunt you, and are impossible to forget, are the very best kind.

why is everyone so sure there won't be a sequel?
jeez...
give it two years, I would bet money on there being a sequel green lit
and in three years we'll be all excited about getting to see our BDS

Universal needs some time to make some money and see the dedicated fan base grow...
and Joss needs some time to make 'Wonder Woman' and 'Goners'
but there will be a sequel

and even before then there will be comic books,
no way there won't be a lot of great comic book stories about our BDHs

Good question; one I've been trying to figure out myself. I mean, by rights we never should have gotten this far! Think about it!

1. What are the chances of a half-season wonder getting a boxed DVD set?

2. What's the likelihood of that DVD set becoming a best seller, and (more importantly) a perennial steady-seller, i.e. a "cash cow"?

3. How likely that someone would green-light a theatrical sequel to this quirky little cult TV show?

Face it people, the odds have always been against us -- and so what? Browncoats are survivors baby; they can't kill us with a stick.

It does make you wonder what River's original purpose was. Perhaps Blue Sun was planning a coup and it was going to use the Academy students to assassinate all the government official not loyal to them so that it can have full control of the parliament.

Who do you think this was written for, Joss, or us?

Capt. Malcolm Reynolds: It ain't all buttons and charts little Albatross. You know what the first rule of flyin' is? Well I suppose you do, since you already know what I'm about to say.

River Tam: I do, but I like to hear you say it.

Capt. Malcolm Reynolds: Love. You can know all the math in the 'Verse, but take a boat in the air you don't love, she ain't keepin' up just as sure as the turning of worlds. Love keeps her up when she ought to fall down, tells ya she's hurtin' 'fore she keens, makes her home.

River Tam: Storm's getting worse.

Capt. Malcolm Reynolds: We'll pass through it soon enough.

Thank you Embers, when everyone gets to talking about there not being a sequel, I'm just crushed.
I get way low.

I'm a new Browncoat and in love, and the thought of this not going on.... well, I can't bear it.

So I'm going to write letters, and buy stuff and remain a loyal hard working Browncoat and do my best.

I will watch for when I can talk about the movie more freely because I'm not good at the spoilery thing.... I have some thoughts about River's role now as well, and will voice them then.

You and Embers are both great in your upbeat posts about this, but I think the 900-lb. canary that confirms it'll happen is Mark Sheppard's comment that, t the premiere of "Serenity,'" Joss told him that Badger wasn't dead.

So, ummm... my theory is: "If Badger lives, the BDS lives." ...bet I'm right...

I totally think there will be a sequel. The way I see it, Serenity brought a whole lot more dedicated fans on board who'd never heard of Firefly before (myself included), so with the added numbers to the original fan base, we should easily be able to get a sequel. Then, even more people will become fans, and we'll get the show back. Yeah, that's my evil plan.

I give to you the Seeker of Serenity, the Valkyrie Warrior, the Gourmet Cook and the Truth Scoper.
