...made ya look...

but anyway, I'm reading a LOT about everyone wanting to know about Book's past.

I took my friends to see it on the 2nd time of my viewing... They're all, "We're gonna find out who Book was I bet." And they had their theories.

When the film was over, we argued about Book's death.

He died with a secret, everyone. Much like real life and all of you know that Joss creates his characters in accurate relation to real life. And now, we're going to be guessing and wondering. And it makes great conversation. Who knows... maybe Joss himself has no idea who he was in some ways.

I don't want to know about Book's past... and I don't care. It's interesting to guess, just as the crew did. And in the end, you have his trust, despite what you may assume.

haha you did make me look, i actually think he was an operative

its the only rank i can think thatll put that amount of fear into a cruiser captain as in that episode (cant remember what it was called)

Book got beat up too many times to have been an operative--by Dobson in the pilot, by Early in "Objects in Space"...blindsided in both cases, which I do not see happening to someone with combat instincts, however dulled.

ALAND

Book being a former operative is the obvious explanation, which is why I am certain it is the wrong one. This is Joss we're talking about.

Anyone can get taken down if blindsided. He was pretty proficient with weapons, not something you pick up at the local firing range. I'm going to guess that he was corp though, rather than alliance. I get the feeling that Mr. Whedon wanted to go with the evil corporation route in the series and switched to evil central government for the movie.

BINGO...and there lies the whole Blue Sun thing they said that dear old whedon wanted to go on to explain the Blue Sun corporation more and more, how they figured in the whole lobotomization of poor lil River *cough*evil bastards*cough*

maybe he was a big wheel in the Blue Sun works but then the evilness made him turn to religion for salvation...maybe something along those lines.
to be honest Blue Sun corporation is the only ones i can see having their own operatives...within the show i mean.

ANGELCRUSHERD

It would make sense if he was somewhere atop the Blue Sun operation. Maybe he was an Alliance spy that fought alongside the Independents, it would explain why he kept it so secretive especially aboard Serenity. I doubt Joss would have him as a mere Alliance operative or anything of the sort. I'm not especially curious about Book's character, I never grew attached to him, but it would be interesting to find out his past.

I think its best we never find out. I like how the character is mysterious. Although, I think it would be best if he turns out to be a former crime lord. Fake ID, for example.
