Okay, if Simon is such a brilliant doctor, why is Mal's scar on his chest so big?? Oh, wait. Did Simon do that on purpose?

The scar is from when Crow threw this knife at Mal in The Train Job.

As he's stitching it, Simon say, "you should have let me do this sooner." Mal replies, "I've had lots worse."

When a wound is not stitched promptly, the tissue at the edges dries out and dies, making a bigger scar when it is finally sutured.

Ah, yes. Thanks. I'd forgotten it hadn't been done promptly. (I'd not had my DVD's in my posession for nearly 5 months--sob--and just got them back, so I've not had a chance to see them recently.) Still, it's an awfully big scar.

It does look bigger than what Simon is suturing in The Train Job. Mayber Mal tore it open in another fight between episodes that we didn't get to see. Or maybe he got drunk, fell down the stairs and tore it open. You never know with our BDMs.

A co-worker once told me, "Chicks dig scars." I haven't been motivated to test the theory, since if you're not a make-up artist, there's only one way to test the theory, and it's not reversible.

DONCOAT

Or maybe sneaky ol' Simon made a crude job of it deliberately, to get back at Mal for his "Kaylee's dead" gag in the pilot...
