So what was the fourth grave at the end? I believe the first 3 had holograms of Mr. Universe, Book, and Wash - the 4th one had no holo and Kaylee was putting a segmented spear shaped thing on the top. Thought maybe it was a grave for the ship, but they rebuilt that... ?

I believe there were only 3 graves (Mr. Universe, Book, and Wash). The 4th stone was holding the.. rocket I guess you call it?
In the novel version, that's how it's explained.

Thought it was just a normal rock that they were using to launch the rocket from. By the way, did anyone notice Mal's mock prayer when he kneels next to Inara? "I want a pony, and a little plastic rocket..." Seems he got part of his wish.

America loves a winner!

It looked like they were attatching messages to the side of the rocket, and then Zoe came out w/ the lit stick to light it. Wonder why they didn't show that scene? I can imagine one really wicked exploding burst, high in the atmo'....but perhaps the mere implication of the whole scene was all that was needed.

In the shooting script it was supposed to show the rocket exploding and that was supposed to turn into a blow torth fixing Serenity. (At least, I think that's what it said.. My brain is tired tonight and I don't feel like looking through the script, lol)

Yeah.. model rocket engines are about $1.50 each. Maybe it was just too windy and that was the only day they had to shoot it. Or maybe it was left out to be in the Special Edition Director's Cut (I really hope there is one of those too).
