Eventually, Gabriel Tam must make another appearance.

And I want to see Simon's face when River hooks up with someone, 'cause over 7 years she would have.

And, if Wash lived, there would be a little Washburne, which would be awesome.

More ideas later.

If Firefly had survived, it would be cool to have a spin off set on the earth that was. It would be a very unique show. People trying to survive on the scorched wasteland where all they can do is endure, they cannot truly live.

I think Jayne would have turned on the crew. Joss said only bad guys wear hats, and Jayne is the only one of crew of Serenity that wore a hat as part of his regular clothes (not as some costume or out of necessity). I know that's sacrilege, but hey. Sue me.

There's slavery in the Firefly 'verse so I won't be surprised if there's child labor as well. Maybe an episode where they take aboard a couple and their children and it turns out that the couple is planning to sell their children to a slave labor camp.

I think we'd all like to see Shep. Book and Wash come back, but only if it was done right. I'm not sure how something like that could be made to work, but there still are a lot of questions left open about Book's past.

I like the idea of Wash coming back as some kind of ghost giving River tips on flying. (this suggestion was posted elsewhere on this board).

Also, I always thought there was something odd about Book so I'm sure he could be brought back easily.

The beauty of Sci-Fi is there's so many ways ppl can be brought back from the dead. It's been done before on Star Trek, Buffy and Stargate without upsetting the fans too much.

Don't give up on Joss, he'll find a way.

Actually, I totally disagree. Book and Wash are dead, and should remain that way. 2 reasons:

1) To show that in the Firefly 'verse, dead is dead. That gives a real sense of jeopardy when the bullets start flying. If they die and spring right back to life, there's no peril. That's why Wash's death was such a master stroke: through the rest of the fight you're just on the edge of your seat, wondering who's going to go next.

2) Bringing people back from the dead would take Firefly to a sci-fi place it was not meant to go. Joss has said (somewhere) that psychics are the furthest out he's willing to go from reality (with the Firefly 'verse, that is). So bringing folk back from the dead would certainly be way past that. The reason I like Firefly (and detest virtually all other sci-fi) is that it has an edge of reality to it. Sure, the technology is a smidge more advanced, but it's still the real world. Besides, if practical laser weapons are out still out of reach, I'm guessing they've a ways to go before they get to resurrecting the dead.

And please don't say cloning. Good God.

Yes, they are very valid points and I totally agree. I think the show would still be great without them but the option to bring them back will always be there.

Besides, there was that episode where they showed how Wash and Kaylee joined the crew. They could easily be brought back for guest appearances in that way but it would be hard to bring them back as regular cast members without some sci-fi trickery.

I still think there's something weird about Book, some back story that needs to be told. This could be explored in a historical sense without having to physically revive his corpse.

I think that, if Firefly were to return as a series, it would need a character like Wash to be the comic relief. Joss himself has said that as dark and gritty as Firefly can get, it still needs a good blend of humor. If there is no way to bring Wash back, then I say Serenity needs a new crew member.

The series could always just start off where Objects in Space ended, and ignore the movie. Or have the movie take place between seasons 2 and 3, giving them time to set the stage, explore Book's backstory, and line up replacement characters.
