"While watching the credits roll, I was left with the thought, why couldn't any one of the last 3 Star Wars films been even a third as good as this."

Was his closing statement

Just voted. Was going to start a thread but you beat me to it.

Film 2005 is probably the biggest movie show on British television so if we win lots of people will know. Also, you can win a hat. Get voting.

It is, which is why i think we should thank Jonathan Ross for Serenity getting to the number one spot.

I thought I'd support Ross' excellent review a while back by voting for the movie, no surprise it is of course my favourite film of 2005. Here's the review I submitted as my reason, slightly dumbed-down for non-fans (I get a free hat if it's read out on the show! :D):

Joss Whedon's directing debut is certainly not an evolution in science fiction. He hasn't taken the accepted ideas and conventions of films like the Star Wars and Star Trek series and built upon them. On the contrary, Whedon's masterpiece is a complete revolution in sci-fi - he has turned his back on what we accept science-fiction movies to be and created his own vision of the future. In this future, 500 years from now, mankind has found no no aliens among the stars, no pointy-eared people who speak of logic or half-robot-half-men who seek to enslave the galaxy.

At it's core, Serenity is a film about family. The ship of the title is home to a rag-tag crew who travel space looking for jobs (not all legal) to keep them fed and alive. When one of their passengers, a traumatised teenage girl, starts attracting the attention of the authoritarian goverment who rule the galaxy, the crew find themselves in serious trouble. An explosive journey to discover a deadly secret leads to a climictic finale that secures star Nathan Fillion's place in movie history.

Much has been said of the film's history, based on Joss Whedon's television show Firefly which was cancelled by its American network after just 14 episodes, but the film is perfectly written for the uninitiated and draws viewers quickly in to its world.

Serenity is my film of 2005, and deserves to be recognised as one of the greatest science-fiction films ever made.

Now all we have to do is campaign to convice those gorram Academy Awards people to give this movie at LEAST one nomination (I'd start with Best Movie, Special Effects, Sound Editing, Best Actor-Nathan Fillion- and Best Director).

"I aim to misbehave."

I can't remember what I wrote but it was too short to be read on the show. I've never seen the show, probably because I'm not big on foreign television, but anything to spread the Firefly word.

I have been a Star Wars fan since 1977 and I was also asking the same question. What happened to Star Wars 1-3. Alot of cool flash but not supstance.
