The Judge Dredd Megazine has been playing a blinder recently. Great stories great art and the almost sickeningly good “The Simping Detective”. Anyway River was mentioned in the first lines of an article in this months Meg that goes as follows “I love kick-ass females. C’mon who dosen’t? Amy Racecar, Misty Knight, Elektra Natchios, Buffy Summers, River Tam……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………sorry collapsed on the keyboard in RAGE there!

I knew this would happen. You stick two scenes of her beating some people up in the movie and that’s all people will focus on. River is so much more than that, so much more complex. *sigh* And I was feeling so much better about the subject.

Y'Know she is a kick ass female.

She can be that and be an incredibly complex and deep character, too. There's no law that states "Kick Ass Females shall be shallow one-dimensional characters who do nothing but that."

And when she

I love it, and I've watched Firefly from the beginning. No publicity is bad publicity, right?

I have a thing about physical strength being portrayed as the only strength in Hollywood. I fairness allot of my problem with “action River” most likly comes from my stuff (I was horrible attacked by a group lead by my best friend as a kid, which incidentally is one of the places the social phobia comes from). I guess there is some part of me that is now scared River is going to attack me.

Honestly I dont come off as nearly this crazy when you get know me.

Yeah, there was the rest of the movie, something about (I'm being liberal with spoiler tags here, bear with me)

"Yes"

And I imagine that somewhere alone the line, somebody will be writing for a magazine and declare how great that exchange is as it shows there are other types of strength portrayed in Hollywood movies. You just won't be looking for it, but I imagine it will be (or already is) out there.

Perhaps so, but most people will still focus on the fights. Which is a shame.
