I'm with ya. Frankly I thought the novelisation of the film pretty much sucked ... would love, cherish and care for a Joss novel so much and keep it in the manner to which it wished to become accustomed ...

It wouldn't even have to be related to his previous works. Something completely orgiginal. That'd be awesome.

The novelisation was a bit...basic. It was a bit vague in detail I thought - the amazing space battle sequence at the end of the movie for example.

One of the people I took to see it who is not a sci-fi fan muttered "oh shit" when the two fleets suddenly realised they were racing towards each other. That same dramatic moment (and the ensuing battle) was covered in a couple of pages in the book and retained none of the impact in my opinion - it was basically "Serenity flew through the battle, dodging ships and weapons fire".

Of course on the other hand I imagine you have to stick to the script and with so much hectic action going on it must be hard to describe individual maneuvers, etc.

Plus, on another matter, all Zoe seemed to do was look at people in different ways lol. For all that thought I still enjoyed the book - I'm grateful to have any Serenity / Firefly material!

Hopefully with the upcoming Firefly books the authors will have a free-er hand and will hopefully go into a lot more detail. Of course, the ultimate would be if Joss wrote something himself though for some reason, I can't see it happening.

Actually, I'd love a compilation of screenplays of new/proposed firefly episodes. This would be great, as it would provide additional "canon" material, and also provide a springboard for creating excitement for viewers paying for firefly episodes.

My 2 cents...

yeah, no, completely - I didn't mean it would have to be firefly related (but was just saying in passing that the novel was a tad underwhelming) ... a totally new departure would be fab!!

Yeah, I'd love to see something by Joss - man's a genius. Even something Buffy-Angel related would be cool.

Anyone know what standard per-script fee is for someone in the 'verse? Could we (the fan base) realistically afford to commission a set of new scripts from Whedon or someone on his writing staff?

I think its a might more realistic-like than trying to imagine paying for a new season...

start small and with reasonable goals, seems like the smart way to keep the ball rolling in the near future.

I'd guess it's about 500 creds, or one block of standard Alliance foodstuffs.
