I believe there are 3 comics that cover from the end of the series to the start of the movie?

Where can I buy them?

Somewhere online would be nice or somewhere in Australia? Provide me some links please!

Try www.tfaw.com. Dark Horse Comics publish the comic books, they do not distribute themselves but they do have a search for the places closest to you that sell their comics. Tfaw sells comics online.

I had bad luck with TFAW. I pre-ordered issue #1 when it was first announced, but didn't receive them until AFTER issue #2 was released. I had better luck with 258West.com, though I don't know if he still has them is stock and I don't know if he'll ship to Australia.

Or you could wait for the trade paperback compilation comes out in Feb.

yeah, tfaw sucks, they will charge your account but you'll grow old waiting for them to actually send you the item.
I had good luck with midtown comics in Manhattan.
http://www.midtowncomics.com/
but I think they are sold out of 'Serenity 3'
altho 258 West Authentic has held back some 'Serenity 3' to be autographed by Summer Glau:
https://258west.com/category/item.php?id=61
so it could be had in that way....
both midtown comics AND 258west will ship,
I'm not sure if they ship over-seas...but they are more likely to than tfaw!

frankly at this late date you might have to wait for the graphic novel/trade comic (which combines all three comics into one) which isn't coming out until Jan or Feb...

Amazon says it'll be released Feb 25, 2006

i asked around all the major comic book stores in WA (the australian one), so if you're from perth then the general thought is don't bother.. they sold out RAPIDLY, and apparently the comics are now only available over ebay and such with a price tag over $20 US. Saying that, i managed to find #3 in a few local newsagencies, but only with the simon cover..
i'm just hanging out for the graphic novel.

they have Serenity 1 (only with Jayne cover)
they have all three Serenity 2
and they are sold out of Serenity 3

the will ship anywhere in the world,
the charge for Australia is US$10.50
for Global priority mail...

they are very reliable.

I actually had no problem with TFAW. I ordered all 9 of the comics about 2 months ago and they came in about 2 weeks. Now I have to get up the courage to unwrap them. I want to read them, but they're so pristine and all shiny right now.
Having, many years back, generally destroyed (read, walked on, etc) what would now be a fortune in comics I tend to be a little more respectful.

There are 3 issues. Each issue has 3 different covers. Basically, each crew member of Serenity is on one cover of the comic, so if you want all of the covers you would need to buy 9 comics. If you want to just read the story, you just need to buy three.

Thanks for clearing that up.

I havent read a comic in something like 30 years or more. Comics always have been for kids, stories without any real substance or detail(thats just how I remember them). Will an "old timer" (36yr old) like me, who loves Firefly/Serenity, get much out of the comics?

There's always eBay if you really want the first run comics but if you just want to read them and don't care about the collecting value, I would wait for the trade book that other people have mentioned.

Comics aren't just for kids any more, and haven't been for some time. Many of them are incredibly well-written with a great amount of depth and complexity.

More to the point, though, the "Serenity" comic is basically an extra episode of the TV series (the "season finale," in fact). It serves as an excellent bridge from the series to toe movie, wrapping up a few plotlines.

It's also written by Joss Whedon, so it's "official." Anyone who's ever said "Man, I wish they'd done just one more episode..." owes it to themselves to read it.

yeah, Joss Whedon really knows what comic books should be all about...
he ties in the story line from the pilot of the TV show, bridges to the movie, and includes a joke which becomes a small running gag in the movie

Cool, thanks Embers.

These comics, can you read them in like 10 mins like ordinary comics? or is there lots more dialogue/writing?

I think i'll wait for the compendium(I think I just invented a word?) 3 comics in one. It is hard though.. I want more Firefly now!

Here in Australia we have to wait until February for the DVD.. however the one saving grace is that we get a "special" DVD with extra goodies and such also reworked cover graphics :)

And don't forget the great artwork inside and out!

I think different artists did each of the covers.

I read somewhere that Joss said there is going to be another comic book. It will be set somewhere during the time of the TV episodes.

Well, it is and it isn't, which is one of the main things that bugged me about it. Before they came out, I kept reading "Written by Joss Whedon," "Written by Joss Whedon"... But then I get the first issue, open it, and see "Story by Joss Whedon and Brett Matthews; Script by Brett Matthews."

Now, Matthews wrote the FF episode "Heart of Gold," which is one of my favorites for its pure 'western'-ness, but I still felt like I'd been the victim of some false advertising beforehand . (If Joss had written the comics himself, I somehow don't think we would've ended up with Zoe spending nearly the entire first issue spitting out one-liners that prove she dislikes Jayne...)

Okay, good point. Apologies on being slightly mis-leading (I actually forget that Whedon wasn't the actual writer).

Remember, though, that Whedon didn't write most of the episodes himself, either (in addition to the pilot, he wrote 2 and co-wrote 2).

It's basically got the same Whedon touch as most of the episodes, and I'm certain that he knew exactly what wound up being said on every page.

in the comic book world the word 'script' does NOT mean dialog...
the 'script' is the information that is written up for the artists and publisher
(that the public never sees) that says what each square should look like, all the detailed information that has to be drawn...
