There's A japanese anime flick entitled "Grave of the Fireflies" That shattered me when I was fifteen.

I would recommend it to anyone that likes sad but beautiful movies, the final scene is something that has been burned into my brain where it shall reside until the day I die.

other than that, in Jurrasic Bark I wanted to kill bender! also, some LotR moments, the end of the original Night of the Living Dead, maybe King Kong, but most of all, Manos: The Hands of Fate.

Yea, I had a similiar experience with Starship Troopers. The book was absolutely incredible(Robert Hienlien, need a say more?) and the movie was the biggest piece of crap I've ever seen.

As for emotional movies, it doesn't surprise me that no one has said "Dear Frankie." Not a big commercial flick but it was really really wonderful and touching.

Big Fish, it was terrible. I was on a date and nobody else was crying and it sort of sucked. I cried the second time I saw it too.

Serenity, obviously.

And i know this isn't a movie, but has anybody seen the Music Video for the Greenday song "Wake me up when September ends"? So very depressing.

So many things make me cry. A lot of the previously mentioned FF eps, but mostly OoG. There are a lot of Buffy moments that make me cry, but the ones that are standing out to me right now are Becoming Pt. 2, Graduation Pt. 2, Wild at Heart, New Moon Rising, The Gift and Chosen. As for Angel eps, the Doyle's death in season one (I think the ep is called Hero) and of course the last ep, Not Fade Away.

As for movies, well that list is even longer, but just to name a few:

Serenity, for obvious reasons
The Lion King
Homeward Bound:The Incredible Journey Home
My Girl
Garden State
SLC Punk
Andre
All the Lord of the Rings, but especially RotK, when Sam carries Frodo up the mountain.....

There are a lot of others on this list, but I fear if I won't be able to stop crying if I keep think about them.

damn, I have to second that one. The end of Saving Private Ryan rips my aorta a new one.
When my dear departed brother-in-law was laid to rest at the Veteran's Cemetery in Bourne, MA on Cape Cod I held it together through giving a eulogy and reciting his favorite poem. I held it together through the prayer and the playing of Amazing Grace on bagpipes (family was of Scottish decent) but at the end the funeral directory speaks into her walkie-talkie and then from a short distance away comes the unmistakable sound of Taps. The floodgates opened and I was crying a river.

I cried at Jurassic Bark too. It's so sad . . . the dog keeps waiting for him to come back . . . I always have to go see my dog after that one. Let's see . . . Luck of the Fryish too, and some Buffy eps, Out of Gas and Objects in Space . . . Hero and I Will Remember You in Angel. That's about it for TV.

Movies:
Lilo and Stitch (original): the whole family aspect. Just makes me cry.

LOTR: Return of the King: natch.

Fellowship of the Ring (Theatrical Cut)--Gandalf's fall into Khazad-dum; Boromir dies saving Merry and Pippin ("I would have followed you, my brother. My captain. My king!"); Sam wading out into the river to leave with Frodo

(Extended Edition)--Gimli tells Legolas about Galadriel's gift. He had asked her for one golden hair from her head. Marveling, he says, "She gave me three." I am crying now just thinking about it...four small yet mighty words that convey how Gimli was so overwhelmed by Galadriel's beauty, and also how profoundly changed he was as a person. John Rhys Davies' delivery was flawless.

The Two Towers: Eodred's funeral; Eowyn believes that Aragorn is dead; Haldir dies at Helm's Deep.

Return of the King: Pretty much the whole thing, from beginning to end.

But in particular (not necessarily in order) The parting at the Grey Havens; Theoden's death scene (OMG, incredible..."I go to the house of my fathers, in whose mighty company I shall not now feel ashamed"; Frodo vs. Shelob (Sam's speech); Sam and Frodo's trip up Mount Doom; Sam and Frodo's trip down Mount Doom ("I can see the Shire!"); Faramir being sent to certain death by his father Denethor; Gandalf's speech to Pippin about what comes after death...seriously, I cry like a baby through the whole movie.

first: i would like to curse all the people who have seen all the way through buffy. because i just started season three and the very first thing i saw with her name in it had a crucial plot point. but you have a right to not use spoiler tags- i curse my own ignorance.

when i started this list i had a very set list:

dead poets society: i was with my youth pastor because i was going through a really tough time with my family (they wouldn't let me do anything but be successful in school) and he took out this movie. bad move denis. bad move. he refused to prepare me for anything. :(

r+j: zefferelli and luhrman.

merchant of venice: al pacino=amazing

little women: watch it every christmas with a group of friends to cleanse the system.

camp: if you haven't seen this movie you should. this guy's parents don't understand his homosexuality and it's really really sad.

harry potter and the goblet of fire: funnier point- hermoine is pms-ing the WHOLE time. the rest is sad.

west side story: need i say more?

LOTR- all the boromir faramir stuff

he loves me he loves me not: (not the actual french release title) boring until half way when you're like "oh no she didn't!"

catch-22: not the best adaptation but gosh it's sad!

wow. and that's not even all of them. nice to know i'm not the only person moved by this stuff. especially dead poets society. i'm still getting over it.

shakespeare: more words than God.

Forrest Gump. Standing at Jenny's grave, talking to her. "You died on a Saturday..." I well up just thinking about it.

Saving Private Ryan. The whole ending, from Hanks telling him "You... EARN... this..." to the elderly Ryan asking his wife if he's a good man. Tears me up inside.

It's a Wonderful Life. 'Nuff said.

A Bright Shining Lie. This is the true story of John Paul Van's time in Viet Nam, a war he fully belived in - at first.

I'll add one that I don't think anyone mentioned:

"Creator". It's a comedy, came out around '86 or '87, starring Peter O'Toole, Mariel Hemingway, Vincent Spano, and Virginia Madsen. O'Toole plays a Nobel-winning genetic biologist whose wife died some years before during pregnancy, and whose every waking moment is spent trying to figure out how to clone her to have her back, when he's not busy trying to educate his student aide on "The Big Picture" (his view of life, the universe, and everything). Spano is his student aide, who is new to college and trying to figure out how and where to find love himself, what the hell The Big Picture 'is, and what it all means. Hemingway plays a ditzy (go figure) girl who O'Toole befriends, and Madsen is the girl Spano falls in love with.

Roger Ebert had it on one of his "10 best movies you've never seen" or "10 most under-rated movies" list for years (wonder if "Serenity" will make that list now?)

It's a funny movie with some great, witty lines that rival Joss Whedon at his best; O'Toole gives what I thought was one of his best performances, and there are parts of it that are just heartbreaking (which I can't really go into for fear of spoiling the movie for those who've never seen it). If you can find it on VHS (what's that?) or DVD, it's well worth your time to rent it.

There are also several Buffy/Angel/Firefly moments that can do that to me. Firefly even moreso since the movie came out; watching the old episodes and knowing what's in the future just makes it that much harder.

Me too. Every time.

And I get a little weepy during Forest Gump, but not at Jenny's grave like everyone else I know, but when he is at the Washington Monument and she is in the crowd and she yells his name then walks out into the fountain... damn. Gets me every time.

20THCENTFOXHATER

The climax of "The Last Samurai". It's the only movie where I actually cried. I won't say what happens, but the way it was executed was brilliant and emotional. The entire movie is a build up to that moment, and there could be no more of a fitting end to such a heartfelt action/historical movie (well, somewhat historical). The end of Braveheart and Gladiator were very emotional too, but just not the same impact. Probably because of the cherry tree reference in The Last Samurai.

For TV, it would be the Firefly episode Out of Gas. Not tear-jerking quality, but still outstanding.
