More Firefly beyond Season 1?

Ok, I'm pretty sure I know the answer... but... There was only the first season of Firefly ever made right? It was cancelled and the actors went their separate ways? Serenity is just a compliation of scenes from the series?

I heard rumour that it's been picked up for a new season with the movie being so popular? I've also heard rumours of there being more of the series internationally that what we have in the US?

Any clarification would be greatly appreciated!

You're wrong on all counts.

1. Firefly didn't even last a season.

2. Serenity is NOT a compilation of the Firefly episodes. Most people like to think of it as the second season, but I like to think of it as the conclusion to the first season.

3 (AKA the saddest answer). Firefly has not been picked up for another season.

Firefly was cancelled after (or should I say during) the first season, and there are no current plans to continue the series, even though the DVD sets of Firefly have been selling well, and consistently.

As far as Serenity, the movie takes place several months (six? I don't actually know) after the series left off. Same cast, but it's not at all a compilation of scenes from the series. It continues and somewhat resolves the plot that was being built up around River and the Alliance before the series was cancelled. It is an AWESOME movie! From what I understand, if DVD sales are really strong, we have a chance of getting a sequel. (oh, please, please, please, powers that be...)

You'll find all the answers here too! I'm fairly new and this is a great place to find out everything about Firefly and Serenity. If you haven't seen the movie though, beware spoilery posts, because the movie is AWESOME and you want to see it with no knowledge ahead of time.
