Thanks to everyone's help, Minnesota will have one more screening in the Twin Cities. Yes, the Riverview theater will be showing Serenity twice this weekend: Friday AND Saturday at 11:30 PM (sorry it's so late) showings.

I don't know when we can see it, so this may be one of the last times to see it in MN. Tell your friends! Tell your enemies!

I'll be there. errrr .... where is the Riverview? Really, I'm gonna be there.

We've decided to have a "Serenity" sing along at the end of the credits when the acoustic version rolls.

I've been wanting to do the sing-along for a while. . Thanks everybody!

HOW DID YOU DO IT??

Can you post your answer also on the official Universal Serenity site http://browncoats.serenitymovie.com/serenity/ ? If not, if you post here, Ill post it over there. Others may want to follow in your footsteps.

Your theater is up on www.fandango.com, but I cannot buy an on-line ticket and not go. It also doesn't say it is one of the two open captioned Serenity version that is roaming the country.

Whoo-hoo! Congratulations!!!!

11:30 Friday, Nov. 25, Saturday, Nov. 26

Go Minnesota Browncoats!

If you get a good crowd, be sure to point out that you want to come back and see it again. Theater owners do not realize that we want to come back and see it again on the big screen.

How I did it? the power of email.

Seriously. I emailed the Riverview. They said that they would show it on their "coming soon" list, and they took it off. I got a little upset, so I asked them why. They stated they didn't have enough time. So I emailed a link to the Minnesota browncoats Yahoo group, which has a lot of members. They said maybe they could squeeze in a midnight showing, if I got enough positive feedback. I asked this board, plus the Yahoo group. There was good response. So I emailed some of the things people said. A bit later, now they're showing this.

I'm very excited. I'm going to one of the showings (I don't know which). Two nights without sleep would be too much.

"what show is everyone going to be singing the song? both nights?"

There will certainly be people there and singing on Friday night.

I have no idea who'll be there on Saturday night
besides my daughter, myself, and a friend.

My daughter and I will certainly be willing to sing along with the song at the end but it would be awfully nice to have some company.

Please, are any other MN Browncoats going to be there on Saturday?

Thanks!

I'm there Friday night and honey, you just try to STOP me from singing. We'll be belting out The Hero of Canton and the Ballad of Serenity before and after the movie.

Ooh, I know the first verse of the Hero of Canton memorized.

I've heard I have a pretty decent singing voice for my age. So I'll sing (if others do).

If you want lyrics, search for Firefly transcripts (or just search for lyrics).

I have the second verse nearly memorized. I can't get the part about him dropping the money (probably because that's mostly covered by dialogue.)

I want to go Friday, so hopefully I will.

*edit, cuz I missed a bit*

Wish I could be there with you at the 'view!

From the script (Blinker posted them in a thread a while ago)
thread: http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=16&t=4276

BUSKER
JAAAYNE! The man they call JAAAYNE!
Jayne hears his name and sits straight up, horrified.

JAYNE
(chinese)
< Hay-soose-mother-of-jumped-up-- >
[Yeh-soo, ta ma duh...]
With lightning reflexes, Kaylee slaps her hand over his mouth; the applause of the mud workers (for the busker) helps cover Jayne's outburst.

Thus begins 'The Ballad of Jayne'. The mud-workers erupt into the opening chorus, swinging their mugs in joyful song.

CROWD
He robbed from the rich, and gave to
the poor, stood up to The Man, and
gave him what for / our love for him
now, ain't hard to explain, THE HERO
OF CANTON! THE MAN THEY CALL JAYNE!
The crowd gives way to the Busker, who sings verse:

BUSKER
Our Jayne saw the mudder's backs
breaking / and he saw the mudders'
laments / and he saw the Magistrate
taking / every dollar an' leavin'
five cents / so he said, 'can't do
this to my people' / 'can't crush
them under your heel'/ Jayne strapped
on his hat, and in ten seconds flat,
stole everything there was fit to
steal--
The crowd erupts again, REPEATING THE CHORUS. Over this, Mal and Jayne discuss this unsettling new wrinkle.

MAL
Umm... Jayne?
JAYNE
Yeah, Mal.

MAL
You got any light to shed on this
development?

JAYNE
No, Mal.

Simon, seated by Kaylee, looks even more disturbed.

SIMON
No... This must be what going mad
feels like...
He lifts up his beer and takes a deep drink.

The chorus ends and the Busker goes back to pickin', singing/story-telling another verse.

BUSKER
And here's what separates heroes/
from common folk like you an' I / the
man they call Jayne, turned 'round
his plane / and let that money hit
sky / he dropped it onto our houses
/ he dropped it into our yards / the
man called Jayne, stole away our pain
/ and headed out for the stars
The crowd has erupted again, REPEATING THE CHORUS. Jayne seethes, facts dawning on him:

JAYNE
I'll be gorramned! That's where the
cash went!
(to Mal and the rest)
I stole that money from Higgins, like
the song says. Lifted me one of his
hover-planes, but I got tagged by
anti-aircraft. Started losin'
altitude - had to dump them
strongboxes of money to stay airborne.
(takes a drink)
Sixty-thousand, untraceable, an' I
dropped it square in mud-farmer
central!
The CHORUS ENDS, and the Busker plays a final bit of guitar, crescendoing as the crowd APPLAUDS. Wash looks at them all in disbelief,

WASH
We gotta go to the crappy town where
I'm a hero...

Thanks to viral marketing...SERENITY: reopening soon in a theater near you.

I went! It was fantastic. There were a nice amount of people there, so I hope the Riverview did well.

I had a lot of fun, but I'm a bit disappointed at the lack of people singing. Oh well. I sung, and it made me happy.

By the way, I was the teenage girl sitting in the middle of the theater to the right hand side (our perspective). My hair is short and brown, and I was wearing a green sweater and a tan jacket. I stayed until the end, and sung! So... yeah. That's me.

Sorry I didn't sing .
The 'boy' was feeling how late it was, and insisted we leave. And he is usually the one that makes me stay 'til the end of the credits!

What an awesome theater the Riverside is!!!

I was sitting in the middle too, but I was with the big tall guy!!

It was great seeing Serenity on the big screen again. Wow. BDM!!!!

Hey all MN-Browncoats!
My Shindig was shiny, and I was unable to sneak out and see the showing last night. I did put out an invite at 11:30pm, but the piano was going and people were singing and the wine was flowing and well, yea.

We had Firefly and Serenity talk going on though, and I did some conversions (gosh, now I sound like a Cultist!)

Sorry I wasn't there!!! Sounds like it was fun though Serenyty!!!!

Bigger turnout than Friday. Whoah!! That is great!

I sent a thank you to the theater people yesterday. So with such large numbers and the tahnk you, maybe they will be partial to more Serenity showings? Let's hope! Us Browncoats are good at that.

Great to hear that the shindig went well.

I'm sending a personal thank you myself to the Riverview sometime today (not sure when, I'm pretty busy).

The theater was wonderfully crowded. Everyone reacted really well (the line that got the biggest laughs was Kaylee's "To Hell with this, I'm gonna live." That got laughs, cheers, and clapping).

I'm really happy with the turnout of both nights. It was really fun. Minnesota browncoats ARE out there.

www.fandango.com looks like just Friday Dec. 2 11:00. MN brought it back last Friday and Saturday. Maybe if they have a good crowd on Friday...it will come back a third time.

Give them a phone call. See how many girlfriends you would have to drag to the theater to get them to show it on Saturday.
