I purchased the DVD set from TRS80 (is that right?) awhile ago. I love them or at least I think I do. lol. My old DVD player wont play them or any of the other ones I try it on. So today I went out and purchased a new DVD player. The guy said it would work with burned DVD's. But it doesnt seem to. Should I take it back or could it be the DVD's? What does the player have to be able to play for it to work? Thanks for any help anyone can give me. Shauna

You should take a look at this page:

http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers

Search for your current player (or a player you are considering) and read the feature lists and reviews from owners of the model. That should give you an idea if DVD-R disks should be working properly.

Hi! Thanks for the information. I checked the site and it says that it is supposed to play DVD-R. I also noticed a a review from someone saying that they had the same machine and it wouldn't play DVD-R. So Im going to call and see what I can find out. Any other idea's? Thanks!

At this point, I would have to guess that your DVD player can read DVD-R disks, but it is picky about the disks. Either TRS80 didn't finalize the disks (which I doubt) or the burning software he used doesn't jive with your player. Take a Google search to see if there is a firmware update file for your player that improves DVD-R playback. If not, you or a friend could extract the files and reburn them onto new disks. That may be able to solve your problem without getting a new player. Other than that, I am regretfully out of ideas.

Thanks for all your help. It seems to be that my player is a little picky. I didn't find any firmware for it either. I hate all technology! So Im going to return it and hopefully come back with a new one so I can watch all my Firefly DVD's. Thanks again! Have a shiny day.

Hi,

It would help if you could say what the make/model of your player is :)

I can tell you from experience with the discs I made:

Toshiba and Phillips players don't like them

Sony, Kenwood, Pioneer, and most current Apex players should play them fine

Others are hit and miss

I used TMPGENC and DVDit SE to author the discs, and Nero to burn them.

Hope this helps.

Hi back at you! lol. It never crossed my mind to mention what it was. Smart huh. Its a Toshiba SD-3900. I was going to buy a Sony DVD player but the rep. at Fry's said that Toshiba was better then Sony..Me being the complete idiot I am trusted him blindly. I know nothing about any of this. Well it looks like I will return it and get myself a new one. Thanks for writing back. Its nice to know how shiny all the Browncoats are. No one I know likes Firefly and my friend was sure that I was being ripped off on the DVD's and that everyone was in on it. Can't wait to prove him wrong!! Thanks again! Shauna
