Nathan Fillion should do a movie with Vince Vaughn; full blown comedy gold. The five minute gag reel is as quotable as the BDM!

EXCITINGNEWCRIME

Yeah, there's a 13 minute version which was what they actually showed at the movie's wrap party. Nathan brought it to Serenity Squared (and correct my if I'm wrong, but I think he took it to the Flanvention too) and showed us - it makes what we actually got on the DVD look positively *boring*!! :D

I was wondering about a couple of the outtakes where they mess up and then yell "SUMMER". I keep thinking I had heard in an interview that there was an inside joke as to why they yell that, but I can't remember what it was. Does anyone know?

The "SUMMER!!" thing comes from that fact that (allegedly, and comically) Summer was always making mistakes... to the point that she was responsible for every mistake anyone made, even when she wasn't on set!

In truth, she wasn't as bad as some (like, say, Nathan?

) but of such things comedy are made.

What I found in the DVD was one of the more witty utterances I've ever heard.

I think it was in the "Relighting firefly" portion of the DVD, Joss muses that in reference to trying to breathe back life into firefly,and devoting oneself to that end, something along the lines of this was asked:

"At what point does it cease being CPR and become Necrophilia?"

Considering the social contexts of fandom, and generally the immense love for this show, I thought it to be pretty damn funny :P

So maybe they should make it a charity thing. Pay 13 dollars to download the thing offline proceeds go all to charity. Universal woulndt even have to put any money into producing it. Loved the way Jewel cracked up.

As for the reason they all were yelling Summer!! when they screwed up. I think it was Jewel on an interview somewhere said that they did that because Summer almost never screwed up her lines, so they did it to tease her. lol

Hey travelers!
It's true that there were some laugh out loud HI-larious things in the serenity gag reel but some of it was not as funny as the extended gag reel of firefly. Almost EVERYTHING in the extended firefly gag reel was AWESOME! Now i'm SURE that the extended Serenity gag reel totally rivals that so maybe i should just compare the two gag reels to the ones that ARE NOT extended. So i'd say that the serenity gag reel is funnier than the firefly gag reel, but not as funny as the firefly extended gag reel. The three things i absolutly LOVED on the serenity gag reel were definatley the one where summer and nathan play with the buttons on the bridge and then throw things at each other (lol - captian tightseat strikes again), the whole wash/backseat spaceship driver ("you wanna fly,

fly!" LOL), and the shepherd book thing:

Another highlight of the extended Serenity gag reel is the very end where the words "For Jewel" appear, and a Caleb doll with it's middle finger extended slowly rises into the screen. Another chapter in Nathan and Jewel flip off contest. LOL!

If I remember correctly that someone who made a mistake causing Nathan to yell, "SUMMER!" was Nathan himself.

I'm going to guess that they rushed to get "Serenity" out by Christmas and that we can, someday in the future, look forward to a release with more extras, including the extended gag reel.

What I'm finding funnier and funnier as I watch are the reactions of the other people in the shots - For example, Adam Baldwin usually stays in character and holds it together until the very last second. When Gina screws up her line about the vault, and he comes into the shot, holds his expression for a moment and then just says, "oops!" and kind of grins at her as he backs out of the shot.

And Jewel just losing it over the hood ornament line! PRICELESS!

AFAIK, the extended Serenity gag reel isn't available anywhere. It's only been shown at a couple of cons (Serenity2 and the Big Damned Flanvention) and has not been put online.

Ok, time for something foolhardy.

It may not work, but it can't help to try.

I figured start small, a thread on here, see if it gets anyones (Joss or Marks, they post here ocaisionally don't they?) attention.
That doesn't work, we could try writing to the fanclubs, (are there official fanclubs for the cast and crew? do they give out buttons? me wants in!) or owl post, they seem pretty reliable.
All else fails we'll just have to try stalking (Dibs on Nathan!).

Gimme a mo to knock something up, then we can edit it from here if people hate it.

And then do our best to keep it visible, until someone responds, or we loose heart and renouce our internet connections, whichever comes first.
