I just wish people weren't so hypocritical about what they want in a mate. I spent, wasted, invested a lot of time in pursueing a woman who espoused a desire a for a intelligent, caring, reasonable man. More times than I care to say she wound up boinking some looser with a pretty face and no respect for women. It made me pretty damn cynical.

I couldn't care less that she lied to me. What really riled me was that she lied to herself.

yup yup. Always with the making me smile.
The confidence thing is the key there. Have you heard people say: "you'll find someone when you stop looking."? Or noticed that more people seem interested when you're already involved?
See if you're not looking(honestly not looking, can't be an act, people see through it) it's because you've become happy with being who you are. And if you're involved, well, maybe you're 'not looking'. "Most" women don't want to rescue someone who needs someone. But there are the ones who are in the head who want to save the bad boy from himself. I'm always disturbed by the women who still say "I know there's some good in him somewhere." whilst getting stitches in their head.
The trick (advises the terminally single man) is for two people who are happy alone and being themselves, to find they enjoy sharing their happiness with each other.
I best stop before I ramble on and say something I shouldn't.
Not quite right in the head,

lol, are you makin' reference to my offering the singly cloven apple to CMS and enthusiastically acting on her acceptance? ;p But of course you are right...I'm confident but I'm not, or at least I don't exude his type of confidence.

Yes, always with the confidence talk. Perhaps I just don't appeal, though. I didn't even look for a girlfriend until I was over 21, due to my ways of thinking. I was always happy alone being myself. Now I'm fine with being myself and ok with being alone sometimes, but ever since the first gf (and especially after the last one) I feel like I'm only half a person, lacking completeness. I'm also rather blind towards any kind of signal despite a decent ability at noticing interest from one person to another. I've been told in the past that this or that girl really dug me and wanted me to start something up, but I never did anything...I just don't get it if I'm not told, more or less.

Aw, thank you JH!

But i'm serious about the scary women thing, 'tis the only reason I ain't gay (er, that, and the fact that i'm attracted to men)

I'm begining to think that some women can't function with out drama.
I mean I like a bit of dramatic tension as much as the next girl - I firmly believe that a relationship ain't serious until the first major trauma or domestic is out of the way and you're still both there, clutching your weapons of choice but with no need to use them, figurativly speaking (most of the time)

But I can get my kicks vicariously - Mal getting shot or Dr Cox bitching with his wife is all of the drama I need. However, many women, including my own sister and my ex (for these very reasons) best friend actively seek out situations that create hassle, and if they can't do that then they spend considerable time and energy building itty bitty molehills into the kind of mountaians that adventurers loose toes to.

(adendum - I am in no way saying that this is what motivates the victims of domestic violence, thats a whole other can of wyrms)

But do you see what i'm getting at? that whole thing about maintaining 'mystique' is not to make men more interested, its to hide the fraggle-brained ball of neurotic scary that some (not all!) women are.

Ha.

Catharsis, 'tsall good.

Anytime.
This is very curious. Made me think (brain hurts ). If women who thought like this were involved with someone who just completely got them (except for this belief) and didn't want or need conflict. Overlooked disagreements etc. Would a woman such as this go out of the way to create a major conflict to "test" the relationship? And if the man just continued to overlook the 'minor' problems, would the creation of conflict escalate, until it eventually broke the relationship?
Please don't misread this as any kind of attack on your statement, I think it just might be insightful to my past is all. Wondering if I should (in some crazed future) just let a fight over something minor take place so it can be survived before things escalate.

In answer to your question, I think probably yes, if she's that way inclined, and fight when you need to fight, I she hurts you or pisses you off sufficiently, tell her - the hard part is judging 'sufficiently'.

Myself, I'd prefere to be told i'm in the wrong at the start, so I can get defensive, stop talking to you for a while, take time to mull it over then admit i'm being a jerk and apologise/learn from my mistake/ tell you you're wrong and why in great detail, before it ever becomes an issue.
Of course thats the theory, its never that simple, but dammit, I'do make it that simple if I could.

As for other women, the only cases that I know well are my sister and my XBF,
sis went one route and found herself a pretty traumatic relationship which only ended when the she was seeing did the decent thing and died.
(I sound incredibly cold hearted here, I love my sister to pieces, I would do anything for her, it was the fact that he knew this and did his damndest to mess with her head and control her entire life - and she let him- that lead me and everyone else to heave a huge sigh of relief when he died of a terminal illness)

Then there is the XBF -a girl who's entire life has been the easiest of any person I know (not that there havent been real problems, but she has always had the means and the support to solve them)

so she makes messes of her relationships, everything from kissing everyone she can in a nightclub so that she can argue about it with her partner on the way home, to convincing herself thet her ex was drug dealer, or her current partner is sleeping with his ex, or that that ex is stalking her - I could go on for days.

Its the inventing of problems that wierds me out, I was reading in a magazine that modern women all expect perfect lives, but they don't some of them expect 'hollywood' lives, to the point where they'll make it up as they go along.

My meaning by 'a relationship ain't serious until the first major trauma or domestic is out of the way and you're still both there' is that in a way, agruments, especially the first, prove that you have the ability to emote and communicate sufficiently to solve your problems - I've known so many people declare them selves perfect together 'oh we never fight' only to part at the first small hurdle
If after all the obcenities are yelled and crockery flung, you can still turn round and say (with meaning) 'damn you're a pain in the ass but I love you' you're onto a pretty sure thing.

of course, then you find out he has a thing for Westlife and its all down hill from there...

Yes, I apologise , I realised after I posted it that I had nothing against the fraggle-brained. In fact i'm one of them and its no bad thing (I hope!)

I'm trying to think of a different expression.

but the pertinent bit of the sentence was 'ball of neurotic scary'

and that stands. I mean, neurotic, plenty of people are, live your life how you want to, scary even, as long as you're a long way away, but all together - arrrgh!

munchkin-brained? they scare the living daylights out of me.

*randomly glances around room*

dodo-brained?

bird-brained?

how about lame-brained?

thats none discriminatory against any animal species, so it should be ok. (if anyone knows of an animal called a lame, I do not want to know)

I'm far too serious for my own good atm, where did all that rum go?

Seryn-I don't think fraggle brained is an insult! I love Fraggle Rock! I just thought it was a funny expression. Besides, we must admit that ALL women are just plain insane. It's true. We're all crazy. Stop trying to understand us because we don't make sense. We don't understand ourselves, much less each other. We'll all a bit addlepated.

yep, seems quite likely, but whip some up anyway and she'll love you for it when she gets back.

the important word in all of my posts was 'some'
as in some women. most of us are only as crazy as it amuses us to be.

yes, working on christmas eve

but i got through it. Mainly caus I spent the day playing catch across the atrium (the foyer/entrance hall thing) with Andy (y'know, the guy who can break things with out getting fired)He was teaching me how to fast bowl (no, I don't know what that means either)

I have to admit though *tries to conceal pride* I kept managing 'impossible' catches, at one point he was even asking me how I was managing it.
But I caught one particularly wayward one right with the very tippy-top bits of my fingers and before I could stop myself had my arms above my head yelling 'no power in the verse...'

I am such a nerd.

Fast bowl? Is that anything like powerbowling?
Which is something some friends of mine completely made up, back when we would occassionaly go bowling. Grab the heaviest ball you can and bowl with it for the first 2-3 frames. Then change to the lightest ball. It tends to land about halfway down the alley and send the pins flying. The folk at the alley don't much care for it.

Scorpion Regent's chinese cold cure

Find chinese restuarant, order : Kung Poa chicken (substitue beef, pork, shrimp or vegatables) Make certain the chef knows you want it spicy, hotter the better. Also get lots of noodles or rice, (steamed or fried makes no difference.) Lastly a pot of green tea, steming hot.

The Kung Poa will take your sinuses and beat them with savage abondon until they are clear and will give you no more grief. The rice or noodle are carbs that will fuel the fever that burns through your body and give you strength. The tea is to rehydrate your thirst and to open up your pores and flush the toxins out, it's like a internal suana. Trust me you will feel better so long as you don't chewy the chiles.

SR, that sounds like a good meal anytime, let alone to remedy illness.

Once the holidays are over, I think I'll try that (the family doesn't take too kindly to breaking tradition around Christmas).

Depends on whose traditions you're talking about. How do you think the bulk of China celebrates xmas? Just kidding. But the point is still valid. At thanksgiving my family had turkey and sushi on more than one year.

Not all of it is raw sea food.

I had vietnamese last night for dinner. Delicious. Veggies and tofo with noodles and lots of lovely jasmine scented tea.

Close enough, methinks.

It's really harmless, as long as you don't buy the day old half off special.

if you want the safe option, go to boots and get yourself the larger sushi selection, if you dn't like it you've only lost 3 quid, if you do, then go to a resturant and try the real stuff.

SR, you sound like a man who might know, whats the difference between sushi and sashami?

in the meantime...

Merry Christmas!, I hope everyones day is problem free and just how you wanted it, and that santa brings you something to make you smile, and that you continue to enjoy yourself for a good long while

Best wishes,(and happy hangovers) Seryn x

Merry Christmas, hidey folk. Yeah, I know, most of you are the same as the Nook folk, but that doesn't matter.

All in all, I'd call my Christmas a success (minus the lack of a BDDVD). But thanks to a couple of generous relatives, I'll have at least that as I brave the crowds tomorrow (also gotta exchange all the fullscreen DVDs I got).

Hope everyone else's Christmas has been completely shiny!

oooh, I don't have the firefly soundtrack yet. Can you believe I was too busy to watch my new Serenity DVD today? Pity, but true. After we opened presents, I made breakfast and right after breakfast I started making dinner. Then after dinner my brother and I and one of his friends went and saw King Kong. Just got home and I'm tired.

Did everyone else have a good day?

Sushi is a hors d'oeuver, it may contain, but is not limited to, rice, vegatables and raw seafood. It is often made buy wrapping the ingredients in dried seaweed and then slicing the roll width wise into small round units. It is usually acompanied by a small garnish spicy pickled ginger and a blob of wasabi, (green Japanese horeradish). A normal serving size is six units, give or take.
Sashimi is a entree consisting of a filet of raw fish, often salmon.

The common misconception is that all sushi is sashimi.

Rule one, for either, get it fresh. A good Japanese restaurant that specializes in sushi will often have a sushi bar where the chef prepares it to order in front of you.

Fair warning both Sushi and Sashimi are considered delicacies and they maybe somewhat exspensive depending on your location. Until you know your local sushi chef, don't cut corners on cost. Food poisining is not fun and doubly so concerning raw seafood. Of course a restaurant won't last long with a reputation for killing off it's customers.

Actually I ripped them to the computer, and queued them up one after the other. I also had a DL'd version of the Ballad of Serenity acoustic that was at the end of the film, that I added to the queue at the end to really finish it off. Don't ask where I got it, I was lurking the chat when Orpheus gave links to threads here that had links to that and the Fruity oaty bar song. So he has a better chance of digging them up again than I do. Hope everyone had a Merry.
