According to amazon.com, Firefly: The Complete Series was one of the "10 Big Surpises of 2005," ie the DVDs that they didn't think would do well that kept selling out. It joins the ranks of Arrested Development and March of the Penguins (which I hated but apparently was fairly popular). Check it out!
