A friend of mine told me they read an article (could have been in US Weekly) stating that Joss Whedon was going to give up on the whole Firefly/Serenity story, I think because of lack of funds.
Can anyone confirm this, or even better, tell me this isn't true at all?
I just got into the series a little before Serenity came out, and it would suck if it now came to a VERY premature halt.
Has anyone else heard this?

Just registered to tell us this? Odd...

Anyway, there has been a thread about something similar to this lately, maybe you should search for it in the "general discussions".

Here it is: http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=2&t=15794

I did just register, yes, because when I heard this I thought I should start making an attempt to throw my voice into the crowd of people that already exists to try and keep firefly alive.
I'll check the other thread, thanks, I just didn't find anything on it during my first search through the site.

"But, you know, we'll never make Firefly again, because that was a thing that existed and is now gone. And Serenity isn't Firefly, and whatever comes next won't be, either. But I would love to tell more stories of this universe and to hang out with these people on and off for the rest of my career."

I think he means that there will never be a show like firefly and he is right. Firefly was a type of show that he wont make again. he also says there will not be a tv show like serenity. he is right on this one too. sereinty was a great movie and that would be hard to bring to the small screen. just think about star wars the tv show. it will not be the movies. same thing with sereinty the tv show.

but he does state that he would like to tell more stories from the verse, so i feel that if he does a tv/movie it will have the same characters and same verse, but in a differnt story. ie not blue gloves, not many reavers, not on the run from the alliance as much. stuff like that, not bye bye to all the things we know about firefly/serentiy. he has always said he wanted a 5-7 year tv show and then a few movies. well there is alot of room to tell the main plot line. ie river on the run and why.

i feel he had to rush and cut the 5-7 years of the main plot and trim it down to a 2 hr movie. that plot is over. so a new tv show would not be a firefly/serenity. it will be differnt.

are yall lost, hehe dont loose faith. i dont feel he will let us down. it may take a while but has finished his ongoing story. he will come up with new ones in time. i just wish he would hurry up cause i am going through withdrawl. haha
i am new to this verse and love it. star trek is tired and needs rest. star wars is over marketed and flooded. everybody knows about star wars and us BC are a special breed. we have are differnt. just keep firefly/serenity dvd next to the star wars dvds and think of it as a giant movie. hang on till the next one.

Keep Flying!

Hate to be the one to break this to you, but Firefly is dead. The question of the line between CPR and necrophilia has been brought up, but humor aside one has to be realistic.

We deal in resurrections, not mere life support.

Glad to have you onboard.

Don't say that. We still don't know anything about the hands of blue. The only thing we have learned about them is that there were people who wanted River dead more than they wanted her alive.

Hardly answers any questions. I want answers.

if you want answers as to what happened to the men with blue hands, you should pick up the Serenity 3-issue comic book mini series.

Ok, here's the deal. This rumor started not with the above-quoted USA Today blog interview, but with Entertainment Weekly.

Joss Has Not Declared The End Of Firefly

The first one links to a WHEDONesque thread in which Joss himself responded to the false report.

Thanks for those two articles, they helped some.

Also, I know that "firefly" the TV series is dead (which breaks my little heart into pieces), but it's nice to know the general story probably (or, maybe, hopefully) isn't.
